Simplicity Please!!!

First, sincere thanks to all the mods makers; I wouldn't play the game w/o all your hard work

Secondly, and however, why can't you make it SIMPLE to use. I am sick and tired of searching for them (half of the mod sites seem to be unmaintained); or having to go through some convoluted registration rigamarole when I find it; then having to go through 10 steps -always different - to download it; always with the need to add .lg or change the CPU or find a .rar file ; then trying to find where on my computer they downloaded and then trying to figure out what file they should go to. Then it doesn't work, so I start over. This is insane!

The fact that all you mods makers can make mods means this is all straightforward to you...but not to many of the rest of us.

a couple of years ago, probably for OOTP 5 or 6, there was a great download (forget what it was called) which contained a complete roster, photos, parks, and logos. You pushed one button to download it; you opened it and it asked you to check which of the four elements you wanted; you pushed another button and - Presto - it opened everything into the proper folder. Even an idiot, me, can do this.

Can we please move back to this.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

You, sir, are a spoiled brat. Talk about giving a mouse a cookie and having to fork over milk, too.

What a night...

First, to "the Wolf", I loved your spare reply; downloaded it...and it doesn't work. i'll try again, 'cause I suspect you are trying to be my savior on this; hope to make it work.

To "Remangii", I don't know what to make of your post. As someone who just wants to play the game and is "coaching" the experts/litrati/mods-experts to understand that some of us need our hands held...what's your problem? And your blog...??? Hey, join the Marines and get some gumption in your guts.

Hey Teak,

I think I can understand where your coming from. I have tried to make my website, www.oxygraphics.candlehillfarms.net "Dummy" proof, although I don't think anyone here is a dummy. Maybe dropping the owner of the websites you are having trouble with an email will get you the help you need.

All my images come with the hex codes so all you have to do is plug and play so to speak, no more fumbling around looking for the right colors.

Well, I took your original post as a little "snobby" also which is why I am reluctant to add much more to this. I think there are about 1,001 other better ways to have phrased your post.

My $.02

Oxydizer, Thanks! Can you tell me what is in your MLB download; couldn't find a descriptor.
All I'm looking for is a simple 07 0r 08 season real roster...w/o the need for a BSc in IT.

Sylvam, sorry for being "snobby" (great word), just trying to be clear and avoid being patronizing; thought about it and can't come up w/ better phrasing which has the former while avoiding the latter.

And, while I'm on it, this may be a generational thing, but lots (most?) ootp players are clearly very facile w/ all the ins/outs of these files...I'm not (and suspect there are many others).

At the end of the day, I can buy something from Amazon, eBay, etc w/ 2 or 3 clicks - Presto - it's done; never fails. This whole mods thing has been turned into a secret science. I know this is not intentional, just a function of very skilled computer people turning out stuff for (mostly?) other skilled computer people. Unfortunately, it leaves a (large?) part of the market on the sideline.

Now, let me go into dangerous waters here. If the mod makers were charging $ for their mods, I suspect it would clear up real fast; ie making it easy to buy. And, before I get any snide remarks, I'd be willng to pay $50 for anyone who can get me an up-and-running 2008 roster w/ ballparks and logos. Don't know how to do this remotely...but the offer stands!

It worked perfectly for me. Probably you have a PEBCAK.

I just re-installed it, following the instructions in the README file. It worked perfectly.

Why don't you spend the $50 on learning some basic computer fundamentals instead?

The fact of the matter is, OOTP is a game that is very advanced and whose abundant customization features make the game a bit more complicated but much more worthwhile. Hitting one button and having everything work may the strong point of some lesser games but I'd rather trade simplicity for the ability to do about anything I want with the game.

Teak, The MLB set is just a set of images primarily for the OOTP 6.xx family of games and older, the logos will work in OOTP2006 & 2007 also. There are no rosters, I dont mess with that stuff, just uniforms and logos. Hope this helps.

As witness the people who couldn't make a hole correctly in a sheet of paper or even follow the correct line. Get a wrong hole there and you get the wrong a-hole as a result.

I know my mods aren't particularly user friendly but that's just because i'm not a great front ender.

I think this goes for the mod makers as well. If you're trying to use their mod and you're having a problem, ask. I know I'm happy to help if someone is having a problem with my mods.

I think one of the reasons many mods don't have an easy-to-use front end is that it's a whole different skill set. If you're making graphic mods or rosters or whatever, you might not have any clue how to code a front end.

Just so you know, the link that Wolf posted is a fictional league that has teams, stadiums and logos all in the file. It has a readme that makes it very easy to set up if you follow the instructions. But, was it really necessary to comment on rem's blog?

Thanks...

Thanks for the explanation re Wolf's download

Regarding my comment on Remangii's blog...1) He called me a name; not very nice; boo hoo; and 2) he says on his post: "Pls read my latest blog..."

So I did - and concluded that he could use some starch in his shorts before calling others names.

However, it is off-topic, has nothing to do w/ baseball, so I will refrain from further comment.
