Is 2009 coming out in app. april

I have an online league that is going to 2008 and i wonder if it is worth it at this point if a new game is coming out in the next 3-4 months. Does anyone know?

Current versions are v2007 and OOTP 8. The next version will be OOTP 9. I expect that it will be released in early Summer of 2008.

Here's the thing, the only people that really know what the release date will be either can't or won't tell you yet. You'll just have to stay tuned.

Has a pre-purchase, or whatever it is called, even been offered yet? I forget, but when in the year has it usually been announced and didn't they often announce likely new features?

Only Markus, Andreas and battists know the release date of OOTP9.

We will just have to wait to hear from them.

I don't think anything about pre-purchase, price or new features have been mention yet.

Thats my question as well.

I play a lot of 6.51 , skiped 2007 but have been tinkering with the ootp8 demo. I am thinking about getting it but if ootp9 is just aound the corner I think it might be wise to wait.

Very good point, I'm not going to pay for ootpb 8 if "9" is just around the corner.

Having spent 33 years in IT before retiring, I can say that they may have a target date for OOTP9, but even they don't know when it will be released (even if they think they know). The actual release date will be the unknown target date plus anywhere from a month to undetermined months.

I'm not trying to be mean-spirited in any way. I just know that IT obstacles as yet undiscovered will most likely delay the date. They'd be nuts to announce any date now, even a target date.

OOTP 8 is good. OOTP 8 is cheap. There is no reason to wait four to eight months for a possibly better game when you can have a perfectly good game right now. Besides, for all we know, OOTP 9 may be a bug-ridden mess that will spark a dozen long "I'm staying with OOTP 8 until the bugs get worked out" threads. It may be the second coming of OOTP 2006. No one knows.

But this we do know: OOTP 8 is good today. Do buy it now. Bird in the hand, word to the wise, strike while the iron is hot, and all that.

Quoted for truth. This is good advice. OOTP 8 is an extremely solid game and, at $20, you can't beat the value. That's not to say that OOTP 9 won't be a solid or even superior game, but by moving to OOTP 8 you're guaranteeing yourself a stable, fun base to work from until you can verify that OOTP 9 is right for your league.

About the only way I would not recommend this move is if your league is already using OOTP 2007. The differences between 2007 and 8 are too minor to bother each owner with upgrading. It should be good enough for the commish to pick up a discounted copy - that confers the online fixes to the whole league.

I loved my V6.51 league, but it really pales in comparison with V2007.

It seems OOTP8 is preferred over V2007. That's what I have been told by some very knowledgeable gamers. V2007 is excellent -- OOTP8 may be a little better.

If you like OOTP8, you should get it now and enjoy it for the next 4, 5, 6, 7 months until OOTP9 is perfected.

IIRC, I think there was one year where they made the mistake of giving a particular time period in which the release would happen, and when they didn't hit it, there was an uproar. I might be confusing it with a different game, though. Anyway, I wouldn't expect a release date until about 1-2 weeks before that date, which will be no earlier than the start of the baseball season and could be as late as late summer. It's hard to say.
