Program crashes on opening on Mac
I recently downloaded OOTP 8, and I have paid for it through eSellerate. However, whenever I click on the game icon, the game starts to load, briefly loads the splash page, and then crashes.
I have searched the forums and tried a few things: * System requirements: I have a PowerBook G4, with 512mb RAM, using OS X 10.4.11, with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card. I believe OOTP 8 should work with those, although I couldn't confirm the graphics card from your list. * Facegen: I have changed the Facegen file name to Facegenx, and it still crashes. The rest of that thread is aimed at Windows owners. I have changed the folder name back to Facegen. * Offline: While I have internet connection at home, I decided to try loading the game without being connected. The eSellerate dialog box comes through, but the Activation Key that I got is "incorrect." I emailed info@ootpdevelopments.com, and got a response from Andreas. The Activation key seems to have changed, but I still get an "incorrect" response. This may be an unnecessary effort, as I have internet access. Still, this apporach didn't work. I have searched and read through most of the threads in the Forums, and have not found a solution. What do I do now? As a suggestion, you might have a sticky thread that has solutions for MAC users, as opposed to Windows users, as many of the suggestions do not apply to Mac users. I posted my problem over a week ago, and I have not heard anything yet.
I have downloaded OOTP 8 to my mac. Every time I launch the program, it goes through some loading and then crashes closed. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. IAN |

For reason I don't understand (I hope they change this for OOTP9) OOTP8 needs an internet connection to start properly. That wasn't the case with OOTPB 2007.
Depending on how old your Powerbook is, you might be below or just make the minimum requirement. The fact that the game doesn't go past the splash screen, I believe indicates that it's not a facegen problem. Did you try a fresh install. Delete the game folder and the Out of the Park Developments folder located in users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ |

Nutlaw-
It has been a while, but this problem did get solved. Eventually, the program opened up without a connection to the internet. Out of frustration, I selected through a series of "cancel" selections or "okays" without the data there, nad eventually it opened in demo mode. OOTP allows saving the game even from within demo mode, so the game opened up fine the next few times (often with a similar random series of canlcels). Eventually, it opened with an internet connection and to the splash page. Now, it seems to open fine on a regular basis. I apologize, it's been a few months since I went through this, so I don't know that I can be of much help. It eventually worked through a series of downloading the program, deleting it, and re-installing it, and then a little chance, I think. Sorry, not much help. Unfortunately, I never got an answer to my post, so any success was through trial and error. I hope you have better luck: the game is ultimately worth it! IAN |
