Scouting and staff problems
I'm also having the problems that others have mentioned about having no minor league staff. Is there not a way to fill up all minor league teams with fictional staffs?
The other issue I'm having involves scouting. I'm still just at the end of January (before my first season) and can not get my scouts to "explore the world" and unearth new talent. There's no button that allows them to scour the D.R. or Japan...I just can't find it. I've played the last four versions of the game, so I know where it used to be. It's not there now. Please help. Along similar lines, my scouts are also giving me the same scouting reports for players. For example, if my one outstanding scout tells me Cameron Maybin has a hitting potential of 90, all my other scouts just regurgitate those same numbers. This never used to be the case - different scouts with different strenghts would provide vastly different views of players. Now there's no difference with any of them. I feel like this, coupled with the lack of world scouting, is the sign of a bigger issue that I'm not understanding. How does one reinstall the game and not delete the saved season that has already been played? Thanks for your time reading all this. Jack

You'd have to uninstall and reinstall version 8.0.0.13 to get the full assortment of managers for your league, but you'd also need to create a new saved game to include them. I don't have the game in front of me at present, so I can't recall what steps are available to create new staff.
If you uninstall the game, it won't delete your leagues or your elicense code. Uninstall and reinstall OOTP without any fear of that. The option to scout for hidden players is set at game creation and (to my knowledge) cannot be adjusted afterward. Apparently, this game was started with that option turned off. Are you seeing absolutely no differences between the reports of your scouts, or only minor ones? Note that older, more established players are likely scouted much more accurately than younger players. |

let me know...
Hey, thanks for the info!
I'm pretty darn sure that I had scout for hidden players turned on...I'll go back and check. When you can, it would be hugely awesome if you could find out how to create a (minor league) staff for all of baseball because I don't want to lose the saved game I've already spent a lot of time on. As for the scouting, I'm getting the same readings on 18 and 19 year olds (Cameron Maybin, Justin Upton, and even crappy prospects) from my scouts, regardless of the varying degrees of skill for each scout. Very peculiar. Thanks again! Jack

Nutlaw is right- you can only turn 'hidden players' on when you first create a league. Since Cameron Maybin is in your universe, I'm betting you're using a pre-made roster set, and I don't know of any pre-made roster sets that were made with the hidden player option turned on, which is surely why you can't scout other countries (when hidden players are off, the option to scout internationally will not be available).
If it is, as I assume, a pre-made roster set, any issue with scouts might be unique to that set. Still, I have noticed a peculiar phenomenon at times, even in fictional leagues, where two or three scouts give identical assessments of the same player. I notice this most often in the amateur draft, where three scouts are all wildly enthusiastic about a prospect who is still available in the tenth round. If I go into the Editor to look at the prospect's ratings, I notice that he just isn't very good- all the scouts are wrong. From this, and from some long discussions on the General forum here, I've deduced that OOTP has a certain classes of scouts, and scouts in the same class largely agree on players. When I notice this, I fire some of the scouts and hire new ones, to get some diversity of opinion. |
