Newb Question on Trading

I understand the mechanics of trading. And I'm somewhat familiar with the waiver system.

But how do you get enough guys together to trade for a better player in a needed position.

Do you buy a bunch of free agents, and then trade them away?

I don't see how it would make sense to trade like 2 or 3 Major Leaguers for just 1 replacement. You'd have less players than what you started with.

Any tips on working trades would be greatly appreciated.

This game is so cool, but all I know how to do now is adjust the lineups and manage the play by play.

normal multiple player trades most if not all of the players come from the minor league system, or bench players. look at the Oakland trade: (Acquired RHP Dan Haren and RHP Connor Robertson from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for LHP Brett Anderson, LHP Dana Eveland, LHP Greg Smith, INF Chris Carter, OF Aaron Cunningham and OF Carlos Gonzalez) Most of the players they got where minor leagues.
