I can't believe this.

Why did we give up Maybin, Miller, and 4 other prospects for Cabrera and Willis? Willis hasn't had a great season in years. I can only hope he does good because he's in a pitcher's park now.

Gammons says it's done.

Willis, Cabrera for Maybin, Miller, Rabelo and 3 others.

I'm giddy right now.

I am content to trust Dombrowski on this. He has made some very good decissions for the club thus far.

I am excited!

I got to think the Tigers are getting the better of this deal. Cabrera is down 15lbs already from the end of the season.

I absolutely love getting Cabrera. He's a top-5 player in all of baseball, but I don't see the point in giving up 6 prospects, including Miller and Maybin, for him and Willis. Dontrelle just isn't the player he used to be.

Rabelo isn't a prospect and I'm glad he won't be eating any more at-bats.

Wow, this is not good. I'd rather Cabrera and Willis had stayed in Miami.

WHOA is all I need to say.

This offseason has already gotten off to a bangin' start... or middle.

One of the 3 pitching prospects is Eulogio De La Cruz.

It should be a red flag that Cabrera is losing weight in the off season and only because he is looking for a new team. Perhaps he has matured but acquiring him at such a high price in young talent is a big gamble. Will he be motivated to play well and stay in shape in a city and area like Detroit; or will he regress and go back up to 265 and be unhappy and a malcontent?

In the long run this could well be a blessing in disguise for the Marlins.

Blessing in disguise for the Marlins?

I've been impressed with Andrew Miller, and willing to say that he is at par, if not better, than Willis now. Maybin, from what I recall, is a prospect with speed, and the potential for power. He'll be the teams answer to center field next year, right? They weren't going to keep Cabrera, so being able to land some young, cheap talent is very good.

I'm distracted, so I'm not sure I'm making sense. But, when I read about the trade, I thought the Tigers gave up too much. If they wanted a third baseman so badly, why not go after Scott Rolen without parting with such promising talent?

Because Cabrera is the second best third baseman in baseball, maybe? We get him with 2 years of arbitration left, too, so it's not like we're paying market worth right now anyway.

The more and more I think about this trade, the more I love it. As always, there's no promise Miller and Maybin pan out, and Cabrera is already a proven talent. Being second to A-Rod at third is no insult, and it's not like Detroit is known for it's night life. I think Sheffield can keep him in check, and he doesn't have the weight of an entire franchise on his shoulders now, too.

We'll the usual club clock says World Series in 2009, this should make it 2010...but I was hoping they'd finally try to hold onto a player as their marquee guy so buying a jersey would actually be worth-while. Not to mention Miggy is amazing, and I never say that word. Part of it is Detroit not being my favorite of teams (I'd have preferred him going to the Angels, or Red Sox if Lowell had gotten away), but thats not that big a deal...its just a little salt in the wound- though I should have thought about Dombrowski. If he had gone to the Yankees I would have cried.

To see Willis and Dontrelle go at the same time is a little painful as well, though it is nice for the two of them. Hopefully they dont turn into the future version of Beckett and Lowell now though.

Now I just hope some long-term plan on them staying here comes to fruition, but this could be another blow against it.

Fixed

But he will hurt your defense and he has a history of being undisciplined. Its a huge risk. Its likely he will be DH only material sometime on the future.

But, in the hearts of fans, hope always springs eternal.

what he said, especially moving from Miami to Detroit.

As for defense: He came up as a shortstop, he had defensive abilities and he has them now- he went from SS to LF to 3B in a short period and he's adapted well as times gone on.
