Add new leagues

Hey. In my game I want to add a few new leagues (Cuban, Mexican, etc.). Can I only do it in the offseason, because when I try to create it, it changes all of the MLB rosters? Also, is there a way to create an "Independant League" type of league (Atlantic League, Golden Baseball League types) where free agents go to play? Any help/ideas would be great.

The manual is not specific on timing, so you probably can add a league at any time (my advice, though, would be to wait until the offseason or preseason). It should not affect your MLB rosters, since you are not doing a league expansion (a whole other topic). The game merely creates a bunch of new players or gives you the capability of importing them, depending on which type of league you are playing.

The independent leagues can be tricky to set up, if you want them to operate in a manner similar to real life. First of all, I believe it is still a cardinal rule in OOTP that you cannot have some leagues with finances on and some with finances off; you will not like the results. You want indies that take MLB free agent leftovers with an occasional player making it (back) to the bigs. So, I would:
  • Set the indy finances to be all a fraction (I used 10%) of MLB finances and allow free agents to cross over between indies and MLB. You want some players to sign up for indy play who need the money, but you don't want MLB-capable players signing there.
  • Don't have an amateur draft for the independent leagues. Force them to either scavenge the MLB free agent pool for leftovers or, if they run short, create "walk-ons" (the game will do that for you).
  • Set the player modifiers of the indys at some significantly lower levels than MLB, but not too far below. Sometimes you want a new player generated for an indy league to be able to "graduate" to the MLB.
  • Use age restrictions to limit how elderly players get in the independent leagues, waiting for that elusive ticket to "The Big Show." Most will give up and get real jobs well before reaching 40, I would say.

I'm still having problems with it. Whenever I add this new league it completely changes my entire roster.

Sorry to hear that. Can you be more specific about "changes [to] my entire roster"? I mean, what is actually happening? Are former MLB roster players ending up in the new Cuban or Mexican league?

I've never seen that happen, but the more specific you can be, the more you may jog the memory of members who have seen it and can advise you accordingly. If not, then you may have to post your issue in the Tech Support forum.

Edit: You asked the question differently in your other thread. See my response there.
