3-way tie for wild card, but 2 team playoff?

I am puzzled about this one:

I've just ended a semi-historical 2001 season. In the NL, the Reds, Phillies and Pirates are all tied for the wildcard slot, with identical win-loss records, naturally.

But the game has scheduled a single one-game playoff between the Pirates and Phillies, leaving the Reds out of it. I have not played out the game yet, and am just wondering what to expect -- how would this be handled in real-life MLB?

Thanks.

Have you simmed that day to see if there is another game the following day. LGO will probably correct me, but if three teams finished tied then they get to choose being A, B, or C starting with the team with the best head-to-head record and working down.

Game 1 : B @ A
Game 2 : C @ winner A/B

so until Game 1 is sorted, OOTP won't know what Game 2 is going to be. So the team with the best head-to-head has to make the decision between winning just one game away from home or having to win two games at home to progress.

Okay, I went ahead and finished the game (Phils beat Pittsburgh 5-2). And the Phillies won the wildcard, while Cincinnati played nothing.

What I was assuming should happen was that the Pirates and Reds would have to play once to determine who was actually in second place in the division. But apparently that did not happen.

Could it have been determined by the season series record between Cin and Pit? I don't even know how to find that number out in the game.

No, that wasn't it, because the Reds won the season series 9-8.

From my experience, three-way ties for a playoff spot are not resolved correctly in OOTP, and hopefully this issue is fixed for the next version of the game.

If I recall correctly, this is claimed fixed in the last patch. I haven't checked to be sure, though.

Yeah, it was definitely wrong in 2.02 -- even though I am not sure how the situation would have been handled if it were done so correctly.
