Still staying with my original prediction.....Pavlik TKO10.
Hoping JT shows some of his old fire from his fights against Joppy and Marquez. Taylor will have to win convincingly for me to get back on his bandwagon. |

I'm gonna open up a Victory Storm King and hope for a Pavlik KO of Taylor.

Great fight, both guys down and I want to see a rematch. Taylor winning by 3, 3, and 4 is shocking to me. Taylor should have finished him in the 2nd and paid for it later on.

What a performance by Pavlik! He got knocked down in the second round but kept pressing and was able to win the jab battle and use his right hand and he eventually caught Taylor backing up against the ropes with hard, accurate punches and finished the job.
Taylor expended too much energy in the first few rounds trying to knock Pavlik out early and it cost him because he looked winded by round five. That being said, JT did fight a more agressive fight but maybe too much so to try and shut up his critics. |

There is no way that Taylor was winning that fight by three or four points. I had it four rounds to two for Pavlik before the stoppage.

Good thing Pavlik knocked him out or he would of got screwed by the judges. Hell of a fight Rematch should be interesting. Did you see the swelling on Jermaine? That was bad wouldn't be surprised if he has a fractured cheek bone.

I stated in the other thread that Taylor swells too much. That trait doesn't improve with age. That said, what a performance by Pavlik. Getting off the floor to knock out the champion is very impressive. I'm not sure how long he can stay at 160, but I would like to see the rematch.

I would love to see a rematch but it probably will be at 168 since both Pavlik and Taylor barely made the MW limit.
JT's issue with swelling will be a huge problem for the rest of his career. His eyes began swelling within the first few rounds tonight. Last edited by a87star; 09-30-2007 at 01:34 AM. |

Now THAT was a fight!
I agree that Taylor spend too much energy in the first few rounds, not just in the 2nd after the knock down, but all of the first 3 rounds. I honestly thought it was over in the 2nd but Pavlik showed good survival ability. You could see the end coming in the 7th. He was landing his jab effectively throughout the fight, but Pavlik was really hammering it in the 7th. He must have hit Taylor with the jab flush about 20 times in the 7th, and every time he did, Taylor's head snapped back a bit. I think every time I've seen a fighter land his jab like that in a round, the end of the fight was right around the corner. Great fight, would love to see a rematch (but it'll probably be PPV....). And as said, thank you Pavlik for stopping the fight because it sounded like we were heading for a terrible decision. |

Time for a re-rating of "The Ghost!" Pavlik is a "7" right now. Still gets hit too much, but was impressed with his ability to get off the deck and still come forward the entire fight. Has a big heart. Pavlik and Cotto have to be two of my favorites right now. Pavlik was using his jab pretty well too. I cant see how JT was ahead by so many points, also. I would like to see a rematch, but I will be more interested to see if Emanuel will be in his corner. Did you see Emanuel go up to Pavlik after the fight before the interview with Merchant? I really believe that Emanuel likes Pavlik as a fighter and would be really interested in training him, although that will never happen.

After Round 6 when Ledderman had Pavlik up by a point, I was thinking (in a hopeful way) "oooohhhhh, maybe" . . . I was thinking three rounds apiece, Taylor by one point.
But 3, 3, & 4?? C'mon now. Sometime I think judges don't give credit for good interior defense. When it's Mayweather and he's rolling and ducking and it's easy to see, then yes. But guys who hang out inside and look like a target (Winky, Pavlik), but are absorbing lots of shots on their gloves or wrists/forearms, just seemed to get the short end on the cards. I can't really imagine any other explanation of why Taylor was way ahead. I suppose someone may chime in with . . . that's what the cards said, because that's how the fight was going . . . but I just wasn't seeing that. Either way, a heck of a fight that went the way I had hoped. I'm tempted to boast a little and say "as I expected" but man, I didn't see Pavlik getting starched in the second. He looked done. As soon as the round ended I wasn't sure Round 3 would be too pretty, but Pavlik was getting questioned in the corner and at one point he smiled and laughed about something and I figured he was ok. Seventh round: Did Taylor deserve the chance to get a count? Or was he gone?

Taylor was the champion and definitely deserved a count, but I don't think he was going to get up. And even if he did, I dont think he wouldve been able to continue. Although, Smogger wouldve let him continue, and then Pavlik wouldve finished him off anyways. Pavlik landed some really good uppercuts and a left hook twice when JT was in the corner, Pavlik is definitely impressive as a finisher when he has somebody hurt! JT was slumped pretty bad.

JT being the champion definitely deserved to get a count but even if he got up, it was clear that Jermain was hurt and it would have been a matter of time before Pavlik finished him off.

I thought it was a good stoppage. Taylor was bent over, and the moment he dropped his arms (read: he was defenseless), Smoger jumped in to the stop the fight. It wasn't until a few seconds after Smoger had made the decision to stop the fight that Taylor slumped down to the canvas. Seemed like an automatic stoppage, no matter how old school the referee is.

They could have counted to 30 He wasn't getting up once he went limp and his arms dropped he was done. Good Stoppage I know he's a champ but no need for further punishment because he was getting hit with clean bombs

Taylor even as an olympian, but it seems that if Pavlik hadn't stopped him the decision would have gone the other way. Hmmm Greg
