In Game Subs
Does anyone know if in game subbing is being tweaked in the new patch?
I'm tired of... 1) No being able to fix a mistake because as soon as I drop a guy into a slot he's reported as officially in the game even though I haven't moved off my lineup screen and (in my mind) my player is still in the dugout. 2) Having to replace an injured player after the third out of the inning when his spot in the batting order may not come up in my half of the inning. Here's what happened to me in my last game. My starting pitcher gets injured as the final out of the inning is made, so I'm prompted to assign someone to his slot in the batting order even though he's the fifth batter due in the inning. I decide I'll have a backup second baseman pitch hit for him (I shouldn't have to decide who will pitch hit until he's due). However, the game won't let me go to bat until I've also announced my new pitcher for the next half inning. I choose one of my relief pitchers even though I might want someone else based on the results of my turn at bat. I drag my new pitcher into the pitcher spot on the right hand of the screen, which of course removes my PHing second baseman in the 9th spot in the order and puts the pitcher there. So I loose my backup 2nd baseman for the rest of the game before he even stands up to stretch. And of course the 9th spot in the order comes up in the inning. My choice now is to PH my reliever who hasn't thrown a pitch yet and loose a second bench player, or let him hit. I think two changes need to be made... 1) Player changes aren't official until you return back to the game...or add an "announce changes" button. 2) Players shouldn't have to be replaced until a) their spot in the order is due up, or b) you go back to the field. |

As far as I understand, this will not be changed in the release of the next patch. There have been many suggestions/complaints about item 1) that you describe, and I'd expect consideration will be given to improving this in 2008. You may want to post your second suggestion in the Suggestions forum, since I haven't seen it discussed much.

I have to disagree somewhat quoting Rule 3.06
The manager shall immediately notify the umpire-in-chief of any substitution and shall state to the umpire-in-chief the substitute’s place in the batting order. So that covers your issues if indeed the game abides my MLB rules to that extent. ie. You drop a guy in the lineup slot, you've announced a substitute. |

The above statements are correct. Please post as suggestions. I'm going to close out this thread.
