Help - Game Crashes Every Time

I installed OOTP 2007 this morning and (unfortunately) was trying to import a universe mod. I made the mistake of changing a directory in the game setup. It says "The User Data Folder Could Not Be Found. Please Re-install OOTP 2007." Problem is I've re-installed twice since then (removing the entire Sports Interactive directory structure the second time) and all I ever get when I try to launch the game is this error message. Is there a way to fix this?

Two ways to fix your problem:

1. Reset the data folder to it's default. To do this, find the folder C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\Application Data\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config and open the file in there called "paths" in a basic text editor like Notepad. (The XXXX in that folder name needs to be replaced with whatever your username on your computer is.)

The only thing in that file is a pair of lines, one that says "path_user_data" and one that contains, well, the path to the user data. Change the second line back to C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data - again, change the XXXX to your username.

That's the default location for the user data. Now, since you said you changed that location in the game (what caused your problem in the first place), assuming you want to keep your changed location, rather than restoring the default, here's what you do instead:

2. Open that paths file in Notepad, just to confirm where the game is looking. Note that even a custom path must end in a folder called \data - so, for instance, you could specify C:\Game Files\OOTP2007\data as a custom location, but something like C:\Game Files\OOTP2007\mystuff wouldn't work. If the custom data directory that you specified doesn't end in a \data folder, change it so that it does.

Now go and make sure that custom directory that you specified actually exists, and create it if it doesn't. Lastly, you need to cut and paste all the files from the default data directory (again, C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data) into your new, custom one.

Then load OOTP, and it will locate and pick up the files in your custom directory.

Let us know if either of those approaches solves your problem.

I was unable to locate the path file or the folder it is in(?) Now I really don't know what to do and I actually have no clue what directory I have OOTP 2007 looking in.

How far did you get? The "Application Data" folder is Hidden by default, so if you got stuck there, you probably don't have Windows set to display hidden files. To change that, open any My Computer/Windows Explorer window and select Tools --> Folder Options. On the "View" tab of that screen are a whole bunch of buttons for Advanced Settings, one of which (near the top) toggles the display of hidden files/folders.

Does that help?

I did change the setting to show hidden files and folders. But still no luck. I don't really have a clue what to do at this point.

If you have XP here are yours paths for deletion- (delete every folder that says Sports Interactive, not just the content.)

C:\My Documents\Sports Interactive

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sports Interactive

Delete them all. Go to Control Panel,Add/Remove programs,Delete ootp 2007

Reinstall
