How long till they fire me?

I simmed a fictional league from 1945 to 1994, then took over my hometown Philly team which, true to life, was in the crapper. I finished 12 games behind 1st place. The team budget was screwy and I did a lousy job of dropping dead wood. Worst part was that I lost some scouts and therefore had no ratings for MLB players.

Because of that, I was conservative with my spending because I didn't know what I was getting. Now my team is a full 25 games out in mid 1995. They truly suck, have the worst farm system I've seen, and my only hope is making some free agent signings in the post season.

Will the owner can me for 2 losing seasons? They have a nice green balance sheet (7 million) because I didn't draft anyone, and dropped an expensive veteran for a prospect.

Depends on whether the owner is a Steinbrenner (then, yes, probably) or an Angelos (then, no, probably not).

I think this game needs more feedback from the ownership as the season wears on, a la FM07. I realize the owners don't make the headlines in baseball like they do in 4-4-2, but it still would add depth to the game if you could find out whether you do have a Steinbrenner or not. Owners should have a reputation just like managers.

The owner loes me even though Ive been dead last

I've been playing a fictional league for 4 years starting in 1980. Im the GM of the team called the Orlando Mohawks. At first my team stunk with high priced players. I replaced them with prospects and have been drafting high. Half of my top prospects were duds as they were 5-star prospects then throughout the season I was getting emails that there batting hasnt come around, or a kink was found in there pitching and they quickly fell to 1-star duds. The other half have been slow to reach Triple A but some have and Ive called them up because the minor league sheet said they are ready to play in the majors.
My 3 full years as manager has got me in last place and second-to-last place. The owner hasnt fired me. I thought when he emailed me that he wanted to WIN IT ALL, I was definately going to be fired. Nope. This time he's lowered his standards and said that I should at least finish at .500.

You must be very media savvy

Its refreshing to see someone post about how terrible their team is now and again. Though it is nice to hear about peoples dynasties, I do take comfort in knowing that my teams are not the only ones that go through extended periods of mediocrity (or worse...)

You're definitely not alone. That aforementioned Philly team is in it's next season, and they're playing .300 ball in July. I can hear the whoosh of the axe about to fall. However, the team is still in the green so there's hope. I brought the pitching staff from 12th in the league to 9th, and am working on the batting side of things now.

I find that building a team is much more fun than winning all the time. I play fictional, but always take the lousiest team in the league and then limit my payroll to the lower half of the league. If I get fired, I get fired, no big deal. My teams will win after about 5-6 seasons then I get bored and try to rebuild another franchise. It is interesting to watch how the AI will screw up me winning teams when I leave them to build up a crappy team. I usually go in cleanup mode and trade away dead weight and high salaries for prospects or cheap players, then when I get my payroll down I can go after 1 or 2 FA than can make the difference.

Love this game and the strategy.....

I totally agree, I just want to get the time to do it. I've been trained on Football Manager 2007, and have been fired from Mansfield Town and MK Dons so many times my head still spins. So I'm conditioned to expect the axe to fall any minute.

My "last years" team won 109 games, but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eventual WS winner and right after that I got fired!!
Needless to say I was a little upset. Thank goodness for commissioner mode (aka God Mode, to me) because now this years team is aproaching over 100 wins again. Here's to the playoffs and health players!!
