Talent hits in Spring Training

It seems to me like these happen too much. I call up guys for ST who wouldn't normally be ready for the Majors, and I've just been getting talent hit after talent hit on players who formerly were major prospects for me. The ST system is obviously flawed as it is in terms of roster rules, and it seems like the same issues are plaguing development. I presume ST is treated like any other time of the year when it comes to impact on development, when I feel like players should be much less susceptible to talent hits. ST is a time for young players to learn the ropes in a low-pressure environment before getting returned to the minors to get in their real at bats during the regular season.

Am I alone in thinking this? Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe I'm just having a bad year in my online leagues. But I think it's clear that ST needs a major overhaul for 08.

Several of my GM's complained about this very thing in the FBA. I was going to wait until our second spring training to be sure about the trend, but to me talent hits in spring training should be rare. It'd be more understandable if some other prospects were showing talent bumps at the same time, but hits are much more common than bumps.

I've been hearing it both ways, and it extends beyond spring training.

Hitting very well for a week sends the talent spiking, while hitting poorly tanks it.

Still, I agree that it needs to be overhauled. And after losing my closer and right-fielder to season-ending injuries in ST in the BCL, I think it might be more than just development.

I think talent hits shouldn't exist. IMO, the way to do it would be to have a prospect simply not fulfill his talents. In other words, the potential is always there (and reflected in the potential ratings), but never reaches those levels.

However, talent bumps should still occur to represent those guys who are drafted late and put it together. But having a guy fall apart completely is unrealistic in the sense of ratings. In real life, if a guy has a reputation as a once-top prospect, teams seem willing to give those guys a shot.

Just my two cents.
