Face Gen Problem
I am running
Intel Dual Core 6600 processor ATI X1600 graphics card 4 gigs DDR2 memory Vista Ultimate (32 bit). I have all the latest drivers. I thought I would try uninstalling and patching to stop crashes. The problem got worse somehow. I reinstalled patched and then developed a fictional league. After the draft pictures were generated and every time it crashes at around 20% of the pictures generated. I have pasted cap logos, jersey logos, team logos, and jersey textures to the proper folders in my documents. Could one of the logos be a problem or is there perhaps something else? I think the logos I pasted were from the icy template available at Padre Fan's site. |

Logos do not seem to be the problem. I tried to build pictures again with a fresh league with standard logos same problem. I am going to try uninstalling and installing again to see if that works. I will post again once I do that.

Reinstall didn't fix the problem. I am trying on my laptop. Not near as good specs but it has XP installed. I am still interested in a fix if there is one though.

I'm sure one of the Vista guys will come along shortly to tackle any Vista-specific issues.
What kind of hard drive space do you have free? |

Have you tried running Facegen in troubleshoot mode -OR- create pics On Demand ?
This is what i do, and while i know it isn't the problem slover it is a viable workaround so you can get underway. I personally use the On Demand feature. It creates the pic in the game as you visit each page or player profile. Try Troubleshoot mode however and see if this helps clear up the matter. |

I do somewhat wonder if it is face gen or a problem perhaps with ID creation. It seems to always crash around the same point in generating graphics somewhere between 20% and 30% done. It does make me wonder if there is a problem with a player or coach ID that causes something to not be able to be saved properly. I reinstalled XP on another drive and tried the game without any problems. So it is a vista problem or a problem with my install that persisted after reinstalling. I did not delete all files after the uninstall so I suppose it is possible a problem file that was created still exist. In short I think it is face gen but there could a player or team ID problem that causes the program to crash not when creating the picture but when trying to save the picture to a certain ID. It is definitely only occurring in my vista installation. I have the save game files. Is there something I could look at in them that would give more insight? Problem Solved. I apologize this was not an ootp problem. I thought about the situation more and realized that if it was crashing will saving a picture it could be a bad sector on the hard drive. After running check disk or what ever Vista calls it now, the faces generated without a hitch. So it was a bad sector on my hard drive that ootp was trying to write to.
I am 100% sure because I used the league that was always crashing to test this. Some one may want to put this in the faq for problems concerning crashes when saving. It is something that people may not think about. |
