importing historic coaches & minor leagues
Question #1:
How do I (or maybe, Can I) import historical coaches? Don't need the pics but the names and abilities would be nice. I thought I saw something on this, but my recent searches yielded nothing. Question #2: Well, maybe a little background first... I just set up a new historic league (1940) using Lahman. Not knowing enough about the minor league system back then, I just checked everything (AAA, AA, A, SA, R) hoping that it would recognize the year and adjust accordingly year-to-year (that is, assuming that in 1940 the minor leagues weren't as extensive as they are today). I've got my minors and it appears that a FEW historical players are in there but the majority are fictional. I did set it so that fictional players don't ascend to the majors, but would like the system to be historically accurate. So, did I make a mistake in setting up the whole minor league system AAA to R? If so, is there a good website (or something) that will tell me what the MIL looked like back then? Do I need to start the league over? Another side question relating to MIL - Is there a way to import the real MIL affiliate names? Thanks, in advance |

Try this link: http://files.simcentral.net/file/phi...files-2376.php
It's a ZIP file I put together a few years ago that includes year-by-year minor league listings, with major league affiliations.

It's just that there is, as yet, no database which lists all the players who only ever played in the minor leagues. The Lahman database, which the game uses for historical leagues, only contains players who have played in at least one major league game (Historically, there have been FAR more players who only played careers in the minors as compared to those who made it to the majors for at least one game.) So, if you set up a full, historically correct minor league system, you're going to have a huge number of roster positions to fill without real players to fill them, thus necessitating the use of fictional or ghost players. (Setting aside the players question, there are other issues regarding the proper history of the minors and the major-minor relationship that OOTP does not yet recreate.) SABR is slowly putting together a database which will eventually contain the playing record of every player who ever played in the minor leagues. Needless to say, it is a huge task that will take quite some time to complete... |

I would say "Quite some time" is probably a MASSIVE understatement.

True, but on the other hand, they've gotten quite a bit of data donated to the project from researchers who have compiled such data, especially data not generally included in the TSN Guides and similar publications over the years.

I really, really hope SABR puts out an "incomplete" version in the next couple years, just working backward from the present, as far as the complete data has been compiled. Last edited by spark240; 07-02-2008 at 09:09 PM. |

This file is just a list. You would need to make these players coaches manually after they retire. That can be done from the retired players screen. Click on the player and choose turn into a coach.

This I have tried starting out in 1987 with my dynasty, but think in most cases they get very bad ratings.
Compared with the fictional blokes that coaches the teams when I start moving around they must all be improved. Very sadly is that you can´t in no way edit there manager win-loss columns so they all look like raw recruits as managers. Would be very glad if coaches and managers could have their experience years and win-losses edit. Creating Sparky Anderson and Bobby Cox, even Earl Weaver with 0-0 as record is a bit sad. |
