With two weeks left in the regular season, the Nashville Sounds found themselves 4.5 games behind the division leading New Orleans Zephyrs. Led by MR ace Pasquel Coco (9-1, 2.49), the Sounds ran off nine straight wins to take a one-game lead with 3 to go. During the streak Coco won 4 games and had 2 "holds" in 6 appearances. Unfortunately for the Sounds, the Zephyrs won their final three while the Zephyrs won one of three.

Other highlights included fairly even-matched franchises, with no team ending with a winning percentage over .600 or under .400. Portland's Albert Pujols (.368-39-149) finished one homer short of the Western League triple-crown and Memphis Redbirds' Barry Zito (23-2, 1.62) is in the midst of a 22 game winning streak.
