Wright V Hopkins
I'll take Wright via MD12. I think he will be the busier of the two.

If no one watches does the fight still happen?
I don't care who wins at all. Never liked either fighter but if I had to pick an outcome I say Hopkins by 116-112 |

I'm not a big fan of either...myself.
With that said....the more I've thought about this fight...the more I find it interesting.....Both guys are carrying the weight better than I thought they would. Winky looks much better at 170.....He looks built...not just heavier... I doubt either guy gets stopped.....Both have good chins and neither is a huge puncher..... Going to depend on the judges.....If they like a guy who is busier...Winky might get the edge....If they like solid shots, more power shots, Hopkins... I think it will be a good fight......I'll take Hopkins body work to be the difference...via close Dec... |

Wright SD12 Hopkins.
Wright will be the buisier of the two fighters (if that's possible) but Hopkins will try and convince everyone afterwards that throwing seven punches in the last ten seconds of every round should win him the fight. I wonder how many people bought this one? |

I would but I have to work a double. Winky walks around at 190 so he is the bigger man. Hopkins has to gain weight to make LHW or SMW. Winky v the winner of Calzage/Kessler might be interesting.

If ever two guys were stepping into the right to collect a check, this fight is it. Hopkins is fighting a light hitting fighter who fought his entire career at Jr. Middleweight. How hard is he going to punch at 170? And they're fighting on PPV?
I'd rather spend my $40 - $50 bucks, whatever it is, on a bunch of DVD's or a new game - not Hopkins vs. Wright. Oh well. With that said, I'll go with Hopkins via a close decision. I don't think Wright hits hard enough to make Hopkins hesitant. Wright will land more punches, but Hopkins lands the harder punches. I only live about 30 minutes from Winky's house, though... so I'll be rooting for him. I'm glad to see that at this later stage of his career, he's earning some good money. |

wink 116-111.
And I hope I can resist spending the $50 on this I know I'll feel at the last minute.

I'm going out for the evening rather than spend 50.00 dollars on this one, but if I had to make a pick at this weight I would have to go with Hopkins by a narrow
decision. Oh that's right I never paid to see Tyson fight either until he fought Buster Douglas, and we all know how that one turned out. Greg

Has Wright ever legitimately admitted to losing a fight? He seems to be a conspiracy theorist.

Now Hopkins wants Calzaghe .. I can see Frank Warren's wheels turning to back away from Kessler now.

If they back out from the Kessler fight somebody will have to go to England to find Warren, kidnap him, hang a couple of tender steaks around his genitals and then release him into the wolverine pit at the nearest zoo.

From a fighter's perspective, I can't blame Hopkins for fighting on. He made a nice chunk of change last night with minimal physical risk - doing what he's been doing for most of his life. Any of us would probably do the same when it came right down to it.
But from a fan's perspective, I've had enough of watching Bernard Hopkins. What drama is there in watching him fight any more? He no longer punches hard enough or often enough to knock any of the upper-level guys out. He hasn't even knocked anyone down since 2004. He clinches more frequently than ever. There's no doubt you have to take your hat off to him for what he's done throughout his career. His fight with Felix Trinidad was great. I'll never forget it. Bernard Hopkins, the fighter, was fun to watch in the ring. But now, it's like you're watching Bernard Hopkins, the businessman, fighting instead. I think that's why I've enough of him. |

Terrible job by the judges. Two of them had it 117-111 Hopkins, and the other guy had it 116-112. From a completely neutral standpoint, there is absoulutely no way that Bernard won 8-9 of the 12 rounds. I actually had it 6-5-1 for Winky, and the final punchstat numbers would substantiate that. A draw wasn't completely out of the question, but the lopsided scorecards in favor of "The Executioner" were in no way reflective of what actually transpired in the ring. A Hopkins-Calzaghe fight would be interesting, but I would have to give the edge to Joe at this point, regardless of the venue.

Just a quick thought. The Michael Katsidis vs Czar Amonsot on the Hopkins-Wright undercard was the best fight of the night IMO. Katsidis, bleeding profusely throughout, rocked Amonsot on several occasions, putting him on the deck twice en route to a UD decision win. With the victory, Katsidis claims the WBO interim lightweight title, and, with power to spare, is one to watch in the 135 lb. division.
