Time Warp HOF Ballot 1974

This is the annual Time Warp Baseball League Hall of Fame thread.

This year's class includes:

(a) A slew of the top infielders of the late 50s and early 60s, all each who played key roles in multiple championship teams.

(b) the all-time leader on Saves, Appearances and Relief Innings, the first serious relief candidated of the live era.

Have at it.

John

1936 Initial Ballot Results, 1937 Results, 1938 Results, 1939 Results, 1940 Results, 1941 Results, 1942 Results, 1943 Results, 1944 Results, 1945 Results, 1946 Results, 1947 Results, 1948 Results, 1949 Results, 1950 Results, 1951 Results, 1952 Results, 1953 Results, 1954 Results, 1955 Results, 1956 Results, 1957 Results, 1958 Results, 1959 Results, 1960 Results (lost in board crash), 1961 Results, 1962 Results, 1963 Results, 1964 Results, 1965 Results, 1966 Results, 1967 Results, 1968 Results, 1969 Results, 1970 Results, 1971 Results, 1972 Results, 1973 Results

All players who received at least 5% of votes on the last ballot were retained for this ballot. I also added players who became eligible for the ballot in 1970 (retired after 1964 season).

All players not receiving 5% of votes on this ballot will be removed. Also, all players who have been retired for 20 years fall off this ballot if not elected.

Vote for as many or as few as you want. Max votes are 10.

PLEASE NOTE:
Players who lost service time to the war are denoted with: WWII

Notes:

OPS+ and ERA+ are listed for all players now. 100 is considered league average. The higher the # the better the player. This lets you see how they did in relation to the players of their generation while also letting you compare their dominance of the league to players from different eras.

All Pros are for the Post War era only (1946-). There are traditionally voted on by a poll of the league's GM's and regular participants (1946-48, 1950-62, 1969-) or by the Sporting News (1949, 1963-68, All Decade & Centenial Teams). The year end teams are named for each league and feature one player for each field position along with 4-5 starting pitchers (depending on the rotation size of the era) and one relief pitcher.

I just want to point out that Mikey K wasn't drafted until he was 24 and he rode the bench for his first four seasons. Might be something to take into account when voting.

I am surpised that Liao Jr is not a near 100% pick
He was one of the finest middle IF we have ever had and he also led the league in XR and XR/27 2-3 years
Just an outstanding hitter made even better by his role in the middle IF

He was twice the player Kreitenberg was in his prime (and Kreit was a hell of a player)

I dont possibly see how you can vote for Kreit but not Liao

There's two players on here on this ballot alone that was better then him, and a few more I'd put ahead of him anyday of the week.

The Kreitenberg/Liao comparison is really tough. I personally always felt that Liao was the better hitter but maybe that's just because I can be somewhat of a pessimist. Then again Kreitenberg has the better career numbers, the defense (4 gold gloves), and the five World Series rings so it is almost a toss up in my opinion.

He was a better hitter than the six of the seven offensive players on your ballot, and a more valuable defender than all of them other than Kreit and possibly Joyce. I mean heck... your ballot has a horrible defensive 1B on it, a poor defensive 3B/1B, a terrible defensive corner OF, and a mediocre defensive CF on it. Of the other three, Ayers was an averave/above average 3B with the glove, which was what Joyce was at SS. Only Kreit was a glove man. To holding the average/above average glove of Liao against him would be a bit of a red herring given your ballot.

Which means that your seven are largely voted on for their bats, or your own guys such as Davis. Liao's bat is better than any of them with the exception of Dietrich (and at least one guy you didn't vote for).

Liao's career is tricky because it's one of those old style "flip the developmental switch at 25" that we use to always see. That led to a lot of career that got compressed.
