Does Showtime offer any kind of PPV on these fights. I really don't watch much TV but would love to be able to get the HBO and Showtime fights. Guess i should stop being a cheapass and get both.

Damn! Vic gets KTFO!! Talk about sweet revenge....(Too bad Pong and Vic's mgmt couldn't make thier fight happen.....Pong would have exposed Vic just as Nonito did.......simply outboxed him for 4 rounds...then BANG put a perfect hook on a frustrated Vic's chiin......good night!)

Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire (18-1, 11 KOs) won the IBF and IBO flyweight championships with an explosive fifth round knockout of the previously unbeaten Vic "Raging Bull" Darchinyan (28-1, 22 KOs). Donaire surprisingly outboxed the heavily favored Darchinyan from the get-go and a flush left hook put Darchinyan down for several minutes. Time was 1:38. Donaire avenges the loss of his brother, Glenn, who had his jaw broken by Darchinyan last year.

_____________

In other news....Big win for former JBW champion L. Perez....Won the BW IBF title KO 7th over Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia (35-6, 20 KOs).

Perez dropped the gutsy Garcia in round two and finished him with a left hook at :39 of the seventh. Afterward, Perez stated "

Nonito Donaire really exposed Vic tonight. I knew it would happen eventually but just didn't think it would be in this fight. Vic is nothing more than a brawler with an average chin. He would still be exciting to watch but a boxer will take him apart.

Also, forgot to mention that Vic's power is officially overrated. Donaire took his best punches and didn't even flinch.

No excuses...but

This is why I just love some of these knuckleheads...they talk out of their asses! Okay, who saw the postfight in the ring when Simms interrupted Jim Gray's attempt to start to interview Alcine? Simms says, "no excuses, but I hurt my left hand...no excuses, I didnt have it tonight, I hurt my hand."
Later, Jim Gray asks Simms, "When did you hurt your hand?"
Simms: "I hurt my hand in the 2nd round with an overhand right."

My question is...how can you hurt your left hand with an overhand right? Why can't people just learn some sportsmanship and admit that the other man was better? Simms looked terrible. There is no way that he deserves a big-money fight with that performance. And I think Darchinyan was even worse...did he say something like he doesnt feel that he was knocked out? If he wasnt knocked out, then I guess either was Nwodo last Friday!

* THIS IS THE LAST WE WILL SEE FROM SIMMS....HE WILL BE BLACKBALLED AGAIN. I was rooting for the other guy anyway. I wonder why Don King was standing in Alcine's corner before the verdict was announced? Maybe he knew something. I had Alcine wining anyway.

Simms looked terrible and he had the nerve to sue to get Alcine blocked from facing Jose Antonio Rivera back in January. I had Alcine winning by two or three points but the fight was ugly because Simms kept clinching and wrapping his arm around his head. At least the right guy won and there was no home cooking involved.

Wow both favorites lost. Great left hook by Donaire. Hard to say Vic has an average chin when that's the first time in 29 fights he has been hurt. Needless to say he doesn't need to go up in weight. FWIW I don't think the "outboxed" him for 4 rounds is very accurate at all. It was easily 38-38 after 4 rounds. Donaire did nothing in the 2nd and the 4th.

Funny Vic was more hurt than he thought saying "I don't think I got knocked down" after the fight. I don't think a rematch would be any different because Vic would have to learn a whole new way of fighting. I also don't think his power is overrated because he hurt Donaire but wasn't able to get in close enough to follow up.

I've never really been a fan of Simms and he looked like a punk that entire fight. He got drilled and went down and started crying immediately.

So much for Vic calling out wongjongkam haha.

As for ALcine, I'm happy for him, I was rooting for him because we're both Canadian. I thought Simms would win though.

Vic was outboxed....No if and or buts about that. Read on fightnews (or was it Pac's board forum) Donaire was winning on all cards going into the 5th (that tells you something...considering Vic was the guy the judges knew of the two).....

As for Vic's chin? I would say it is still solid and he's only been down once in 29 fights.....But it isn't as solid as some were suggesting / speculating....Reality is Vic has fought low quality opposition for the most part (outside of a washed out Pacheco). He built his aura of power and his chin Vs sub-par competition.

Donaire was also coming down in weight.....I've always said Vic's "power" is overrated in terms of him being some massive one shot type guy....That isn't how he wins most of his fights....He has heavy hands and he throws big shots quite often.....He typically lands a number of big shots before TKO guys in the mid to late rounds..... His power at Fly Wt should be around a 9.

Donaire barely threw a punch in the 4th round .. not sure how anyone watching even in the Phillipines could have given the 4th round to Nonita. Third round Donaire won only by virtue of a strong finish. Vic won the first 2 minutes of the round. The second I thought Vic won but like the third it was due to a strong finish. First round was clearly Nonita's. So 1 round clearly Vic's, one clearly Donaire's .. the other two close.

I agree he isn't a one shot power guy it's the # of shots he lands. While I don't think this bothered him you never know what the Burgos fight took away from him either. Many fighters were never the same after critically hurting another boxer.

I think Vic's aura of invincibility was built on the fact that he mostly faced subpar competition. His chin is a little bit better than average but he can be hurt and most of his KO's come from accumilation of punishment rather than one punch.

FWIW I had the fight even after four rounds. It seemed like Vic was building some momentum in the fifth, then out of nowhere Donaire landed that hook and that was all she wrote.

Agree 100% .... it is like when Tyson was KO'd by Douglas .. no one will be afraid of Vic any more. I can see a string of losses in his future because I don't think he can change the way he fights. I could be wrong, but I don't see him learning from this loss.

At 31, there is no way Vic will change what he is. The guy is a one dimensional slugger that is exciting and can put fans in the seats but can be outboxed and hurt by someone who can match his ability to punch. A rematch with Donaire would result in another KO loss for Vic. Personally, I don't see people being interested or money being made in a second fight.

Good points (and true) regarding Vic isn't going to learn to fight any other way - He can't - He is a plodding banger plain and simple -

With that said.....I'd still make it an even-money fight if Donaire gives him a rematch (which he should. At least after making maybe one other defense).

Likely, Vic moves up to JBW is my guess (unless given an immediate rematch).

I think Donaire should give Vic the rematch after taking a manditory tuneup but it's going to be hard to sell because more than likely the same result will happen. IMO what happened last night wasn't a fluke.

If Vic does move up to JBW, i'm not sure how well he'll do because there are a lot of good fighters in that division right now. I guess time will tell.

Agree - JBW has a number of solid fighters and Vic losses to most in the Top 8-10.

I think both fighters who lost, showed what it takes to be a professional fighter. Courage and the steadfast belief in thier own abilities...the first time a defeated fighter says .."Gee I got pounded tonight" will all but sound the death knell on thier career.

I do agree with the comments saying Vic is 31 and will not be able to change, this along with my own belief that lighter weight fighters can lose it in between rounds as well as overnight.

Well sorry for the longwinded reply.

I think this is the best community online...I enjoy reading all of your posts.

Unless Vic is messed up mentally from this fight, he should be able to make a comeback. Or, he could go the route of Naseem Hamed and never be the same again.

One thing's for certain, he won't be fighting Manny Pacquiao anytime soon as he's mentioned a few times in the past.
