Lets talk Minor leagues and AI
I run my team, the Cardinals and I have my minor league teams ran by the AI managers.
My question is, will they release and sign players? I just had the draft run and noticed a ton of players in rookie-A now, will the AI adjust to this? Thanks! |

It depends on your settings in the manager options page. You can designate minor league transactions, lineups, or signs and releases to the AI, or you can control it all.

Also, you may not see AI release any players until it reaches the roster limit for that league. The rookie league could be set for 35 to 40 players or more.

With no roster limits on the minors, the AI will not release players, even ones with career ending injuries. The AI will, however, sign players if your organization is lacking at a position- often way too many players, which I find to be a problem. In general, any excess players will be shunted down to the lowest level of the minors, rather than being distributed evenly throughout your system. If you leave the minors in the control of the AI, it's a good idea, perhaps once a year, to release older minor leaguers with no shot at playing a big league role- players at every level of the system, to prevent your prospects from being blocked. I normally keep 50-60 players in rookie ball, and this seems to prevent the AI from signing anyone.
I don't play with roster limits, in part because I want to leave the minors under AI control, and I don't want the AI releasing players without my approval. |

One issue I found regarding minors AI, when I click "let AI set up entire organization" sometimes they call up my 18 year old shortstop to the big leagues. His ratings are actually decent but he still needs more development especially at his age. There's no way an 18 year old gets called up in real life.

I haven't followed the 'draft-and-release' threads too closely, but I expect if you set the limits too low, you may discover that the AI releases some of your most recent draft picks, because they won't have yet developed overall ratings comparable to other players in your system- at least this is the behaviour people were noticing in the past. To be safe, I'd start with a generous limit, and work your way down to what you want, making sure nothing undesirable happens along the way.

Thanks for this! I'm thinking about 30 for all minors EXCEPT for rookie, which I'll set to unlimited or 40 like the manual says. |

note- he would've had a lot more at bats if I didn't manually send him back down. The AI did the same thing with another player in the past and it ruined his development. I'll get pic of him as soon as my computer generates the almanac.
