Post Swingin' Syringes Baseball Association (SSBA)

League Name:
Swingin' Syringes Baseball Association (SSBA)
League URL: http://www.swinginsyringes.net/
League Type: Historical 1998
Special League Rules: 3 yr rating recalc, $90 mil salary cap, 10 round inaugural draft
Number of Teams: 30
OOTP Version: 2007, will always use latest official patch

The Swingin' Syringes Baseball Association is a new historical league that just started in June 2007. We began with the 1998 season and distributed players through a 10-round Inaugural Draft and 3-round Supplemental Draft. The sim schedule will be Sunday and Thursday; with 15 OOTP days per sim. Check out the web site for further details, and feel free to email or PM if you have any questions.

We already have some extremely active owners from other leagues and want to fill up fast, so owners of all experience levels are welcome to join. Anyone interested in joining should send an email to swinginsyringes@gmail.com (note only one 'g' in swingin) with the following information.....
  • your full name
  • your top 5 preferences for teams
  • the date of birth you want displayed in the league file
  • the password you want to use to access the league file
  • your AIM account name

Can you explain how the three year recalc will affect player ratings?

This was one of the primary purposes of starting the league, as the ratings recalc feature is relatively new and there are few (if any) strong existing leagues that have implemented it.

Here is the description from within the game:
"In your historical league, you can either have the players develop based on their talent ratings or the way they did in reality. If enabling the following option, players will get recalculated ratings before each season, and primary positions based on where they played in real life."

It is our opinion that any historical-based league that has several years of data available achieves much greater accuracy with the ratings recalc feature enabled than with it disabled.

If you are interested in joining, please send me an email and I will provide further details on the recalc feature and some examples of player development from test leagues.

Yeah, I know that re-calc generates realistic results, but I'm not really sure how it works. Can players develop during those three seasons, and then get completely new ratings based on how good they were that season? Or is there no development at all?

Perhaps I'm mistaken.... but I get the impression that you are more interested in learning about how a feature in OOTP works, rather than anything uniquely specific to the SSBA league?

With that being the case, I kindly refer you to the following topics where you can learn from people much more knowledgable about OOTP than I am.....

3 year recalc question
Question about recalc
Ratings Recalc & Short Careers
Ty Cobb career AAA'er without stat recalc :0

It also might be helpful to post questions in the "General Discussion" or "New to the Game" forums. I have received extremely knowledgable responses when I have used those forums in the past.

Should be a fun league, everyone should take a look if you're looking for a current league. Every team has a shot via the initial draft! Looking forward to playing with you all.

I was asking you a question to see if I was interested in your league, rather than start up a new thread. Apologies. I run my own league and have been playing since Season Ticket, so I'm not really new

Don't worry about it - no harm, no foul.

Hopefully the links I posted answer your questions, if not you can always ask them in the appropriate forum and I'm sure they will receive many quality answers.

You raised some good questions on a topic that received minimal documentation, so it might even benefit the community if you post the questions in "General Discussion" or "New to the Game" anyway for people who are wondering the same thing.
