Want to Get in at the Creation?

I intend to create a new league, and would like anyone who would be interested to drop me an e-mail at denimpegasus@icqmail.com and let me know you want 'in'.

Ground rules to start off with, and to give an idea of what will be going on:

I will be starting the league from scratch, using all fictional players, and with the default 'modern era' settings from the game. Starting year will be 2000, and all players will be generated mnior-league players who will then be placed into a league-wide draft. The draft will be *computer* run (for time and sanity sake) with the draft order being in the order that I recieve applicants.

I will be setting up for it to be a 18 to 24 club league (depending on the number of applicants). Whether we use a 2 or 3 divisional format will be the choice of the team owners.

I will NOT be a owner myself, as I am going to be having more fun working behind the scenes.

IMPORTANT:

-----
Focus will be on creative writing: All owners will be expected to (in a way of there choice) focus somehow on there team and write about it, whether it is on a specific player, short story fiction, newspaper format, whatever. The point will be, they will in some way be *writing*.
------

There will be no coach/scout option. Everyone will get the same information on players as the next. This is mainly so that I do not have to deal with coach signings every year. Free Agency will be bad enough.

Speaking of which...

Free agents will be signed during the off season or after the trade deadline has passed ONLY. See above about me wishing to keep my sanity.

Sims will be done once a week, with each sim being two weeks of play. This means roughly one month every two weeks will be simmed out. Be prepared to submit a substitute lineup in case one of your players goes down with an injury, lest you want it to be auto-generated by the computer.

Trades will be made between human participants ONLY. If a team is under computer control, they will be off limits for gathering players from.

All owners will be able to choose where they wish there team to be based. This is another good reason to get in early.

All teams will start life with a MINIMAL stadium, and average market and fan loyalty base. All stadiums will be identical, except for prevailing weather conditions, which will be based on RL averages for the city you choose. Keep in mind starting stadiums will be open air, so if you pick a place that can be harsh weatherwise, expect it to have an effect.

Stadiums can be upgraded for an as-of-undecided cost.

A salary cap will be voted on by the owners at inception.

A cash maximum per team will be decieded upon at inception.

Each team will be expected to have a logo. If you aren't the creative type, I'm sure you can find someone who is. I'm not too hideous with photoshop myself (despite my ugly avatar).

All teams WILL be fictional: That means no Yankees, Phillies, Mariners, etc for team names, although I have no problem with which city you choose to be in.

The league name will decided on by me, once I start getting applicants and I start to get ideas and suggestions in.

Expect a small delay as I get the applicants in, as I will be spending a bit of time looking up the data to plug in for the stadium weather conditions.

Be expected to occasionally get together on IRC for meetings... these are not set in stone or anything, but likely will have to occur at some points. If by a miracle a decent number of us can get together at the same time, perhaps a 'live' draft will be possible...

Finally, have fun. I know I will!

Sign up today at denimpegasus@icqmail.com

Format to use in your e-mail:

---
Your name:
City name:
Team name:
3 minor league cities:
Suggestion for League Name:
AIM, ICQ, or MSN ID(s) where you can be reached:
---

Again, it should be pointed out the focus will be more on the creative writing aspect of the league then on the gameplay (though that doesn't mean to slouch on that either). I don't expect Shakespeare, but I do expect *something*.

C'mon folks! The opportunity to get in at the start of things doesn't happen *too* often! I have one applicant already, I need more!

Name youir own team! Choose your own city!

(I know you want to... )

Sounds like a great opportunity! I'd jump in if I was not loaded already (see sig). The creative writing aspect intrigues me to no end as does creating your own logo and choosing a city.
Good luck!

No webpage as of yet, need to find myself a decent freebie provider online, and I *really* want to avoid geocities.

As I said... its so new, its got that plasticy new car scent to everything.

I'll post as soon as I find a place to put up a site.

I am really considering applying but I am concerned about myself: I am just not sure I am patient enough to handle 2 weeks simmed every week.

I will let you know soon but it looks like a fun league.

Well if people want, it could always be more then 2 weeks/week... I'm new at this so don't know what the 'norm' would be.

I'm easy.

Also considering to do the draft non-computer... just not exactly sure how that could be accomplished without it taking 20 years and being utter chaos...

if you're new at this, maybe you might want to join a couple leagues and get a feel for how they operate, before attempting to start one yourself.

I think the "writting" portion may scare some people off. I might be able to knock off an "article" of some type once a month but for many it may be much more difficult than spending a ton of hours trying to refine your team. Maybe you can tell us how much writting would be necessary. Some of us are still petrified at thinking about "creative writting" we had to do in school.

the writting part is the reason i'm interested in this...

if you could get a bunch of owners who are willing to do a lot of writting, this league could be pretty good...

keep in mind, though, that a lot of people may be reluctant to join until they see something tangible about the league (like a webite)...

Did you decide what kind of ratings system you were going to use? I wouldn't mind joining another league but I prefer the Reduced Ratings only, and I haven't seen anything specific in your post.

Was figuring a lot of the nitty-gritties would be decided on by everyone as a whole. That way everyone (mostly) is happy...

And the web site is still in the works. I'm trying to get something up and going, but the past 2 days have been hellatious for me as far as free time. (lets just say it was emergency babysitting and hospital visit day yesterday and not go any deeper ::sigh:: )

I should have something concrete up over the weekend...

As far as writing, again, I'm not fussy, but what I'm basically looking for is for *something*. Anything... even if its only a quick 5-minute hammering out of some sort. This isn't school, I'm not gonna be grading anything or anything like that. I just am looking at it to be something where someone could go to the site, once it exists, go to any team, and (hopefully) be able to follow its progress along in the eyes of the person who runs it. (in whatever creative way that person chooses to put said progres sto writing).

And there are still plenty of available teams for the creation... And due to suggestions, if possible the initial draft could go live instead of computer generated...

(as I said before... I'm easy <g>)

Sent an e-mail out to those few who applied, and making a public statement in case none of them went through...

Due to a lack of interest, I'm gonna have to scrap this idea before it gets started.

It wouldn't be fair to try to run a game with 3(!) owners, especially with me being relatively new to all this. Rather then proceed and just wind up with everyone frustrated, I'm gonna put this idea on hold until I can accomplish a few things:

1. Get a decent web site designed and implemented (could be a while)

2. Get myself a faster internet connection (again, could be a while)

So.. again... apologies, but in all fairness I have to shelve running a league until some future point.

However... if anyone is looking for an owner who has a tendancy to like to get creative with writing about what goes on...

I *am* available.

check out the ABA. By observing the league and posting about it, you can earn "vulture" status, which will put you in the running for any future openings in the league. Since you seem to be very interested in the creative writing aspect, the ABA would be a great fictional league for you to learn and write articles about. Also, the JBL could always use a new writer for the Chronicles, if you'd like to write about fictional Japanese players.

Good choice. I'm sure you'd have more interest if you had a good webpage because you seem like a well-spoken and reasonable guy with good ideas.

You got some interest but nobody wants to commit without seeing something solid first.
