Cannot load online league file

I'm in an online league, this is my only one, and I am having problems getting the file to work. The commish and I have gone through numerous steps to try and get this to work but to no success, and I'm the only one in the league who is having this problem. I can download the file off the site just fine, but the file is around 3 months old, game-time not real-time, I extract it using 7-zip but it comes out with 1565 errors every time and they all seem to be in the news category. However, the game opens just fine, but when I try and update in-game, it updates fine, saves fine, but crashes when it tries to load the database. When I try to open the game after crashing it says the loading of the database failed because it is either corrupt or from an old save game. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? I'm going to be gone the next two days but hopefully the commish can get in here and answer any questions you have.

EDIT: It crashes at 6% when it says "Loading Leagues".

When we spoke earlier, we had confirmed that you were both using the same version of OOTP.

Did you ever ask the commish to try generating a current full league export for you? Since you are getting errors when unzipping the file, that would be my primary area of concern.

The thing is that nobody else has problems with the league file at all. They are not getting the errors that he is getting. Other GM's have joined the league after him and have used the 'same' file with success. I have 39 GM's that have no issues with it. So I have to think that the problem is on his end.

Thanks,
-j

Fair enough.

Molarmite, you are putting the .lg folder in your saved_games folder and you haven't renamed the folder from what giornaliere sent you?

This may or may not help, but when i see that another GM in my league gets this error message they rectify it by opening up the game, clicking the Load Game button and highlighting the league in question, then delete the league from the game. Close the game. I then have them create the league.lg folder again in the saved games folder and then go to the site and get the file and extract it to the league.lg folder. Open the game again, but do not use the continue button, choose Load Game and select the new league.lg file and load er up. This has worked everytime.

I did Tycobbler's suggestion but I used a new stripped-down file that the commish file gave me and everything seems to working fine for me right now, thanks guys.

Great. Glad to hear it. I'm going to close this thread up for now, then, but if you need any further help with this issue down the road, simply post in Tech Support and we can continue to troubleshoot the issue.

I opened this back up because the new sim just came out and it crashed again when I updated in-game. Same exact problem.

Could you rename all of your .bak files to .dat files to restore your league to its pre-import state? Could you then ask giornaliere to provide you with an out of game file update for the last sim? We need to determine whether or not the problem results from your connection/the in-game import or whether it is an issue with the files themselves.

What exactly was taken out of the stripped down file that was provided to you? What are your system specs? Is the league fairly large? Does it include a lot of player photos? You have a lot of human GMs in this league. Is scouting enabled?
