Kevin Brown
I see Kevin Brown is done for the season. Again. Someone remind me again how much the Dodgers gave him?

Remember when he signed for 13 millions a year (around that isn't it?), everyone said that baseball salaries were getting crazy. How many players earn that much now?

$105 million for that rat bastard. To think the Dodgers low-balled Randy Johnson, causing him to spur the Dodgers and go to Arizona. Then Dodger GM Kevin Malone bid against himself, offering Brown about $40 million more than the Dodgers allegedly offered Johnson (and threw in the private jet to boot). Brown is 37 and not getting younger (or healthier).

They signed him at age 34 to a 7 year contract? Are they insane?
I can understand the big dollars, he's one of the best pitchers of the modern era (granted, he'd be a 300 game winner if he could start 35 games a year), but the length of the contract is ridiculous, especially for a guy entering the number padding phase of his career. Jason

If I remember correctly, with the bonuses he made more than the Twins entire payroll the first year of his deal (something like 20 million to 19 million).

they are overpaid, but the market bears it. huge difference. its not like i'm paying a McDonalds clerk 20 dollars an hour and losing thousands of dollars a year.
oh wait...i take it all back...ballplayers may just be a tee bit overpaid. as for kevin brown i dont think the length of the contract matters if you think about it. he's been hurt since he signed the deal. it could be a three year deal. Kevin Brown would not have been healthy. The Dodgers are just unlucky to get an injury prone guy. They went for a gamble and lost. If Kevin Brown were healthy and pitching as he was expected to, then the deal would have looked genious in comparison to other pitchers salaries **cough** Dreifort **cough**...oh but wait, he was signed by the Dodgers too. ok i'm sorry, this post was pointless. you guys are right. |

The whole Kevin Brown mess can be summed up in two words:
Kevin Malone A few other Malone "accomplishments": Signing career sub-.500 sore armed pitcher Darren Dreifort to a $50+ million dollar contract. Signing Devon White as a free agent Trading Todd Hollandsworth for crappy lead-off hitter Tom Goodwin (whom the Dodgers are paying to play for the Giants) Trading Charles Johnson and Roger Cedeno for Todd Hundley Signing free agent Gregg Olson (8.03 ERA) for $1.75 mill Signing free agent F.P. Santangelo (.197) Signing Carlos Perez to a $7+ million dollar per year extension About the only think in recent memory Malone can't be blaimed for is trading Piazza. |

which came first? did the fans in montreal lose interest because the expos couldn't keep all their prospects? or are the expos not able to pay their prospects-turned-stars because there is little fan interest in montreal, and thus, little revenue?

Guererro's a FA agent soon. If they are still in Montreal, and Vlad leaves, there is gonna be nobody there. Literally.
