Teams file editing

(re-wrote question......maybe someone will know)

What fields does the game require from the teams.csv file, if you wish to create a 'new' historical structure. (i.e. eliminate divisions, change expansion date & team name changes, )?

thanks

I don't think you have to have any of the stats but they will not be imported if you don't have them. You do need these:

yearID Year
lgID League
teamID Team
franchID Franchise (links to TeamsFranchise table)
divID Team's division
team full name

If you are doing MLB history and you want to change the structure then all you need to do is change the league and divisions to where you want them to be.

I am building a DB for an online league and I have the league history importing from this file. It's also important to have the franchise file filled out.

yes...it is the franchise ID file...every team in the teamID file needs to be linked to a franchise in the franchiseID file or they will show up as defunct...I had this happen when I put in the wrong franchise ID in the team ID file.

If I edit the teams.csv and teamsfranchise.csv to start with a 6-team league in 1871, then expand to 8 in 1879 and two 8 team leagues in 1882, will auto-expansion add a new league?

Also, will I have the option to add in real life transactions once 1901 rolls around? Or do I have to start in 1901 for that?

Thanks for any help.

Also, will auto-expansion contract 4 teams and combine back to one league in 1892 and contract 4 teams again in 1900 before adding a new league and expanding in 1901; assuming I edit the teams and teamfranchises files appropriately?
