Extreme Teams

I just purchased OOTP 2007, but have played many prior versions of this and other games.

As I can see from many posts, many of us have created teams that dominate so much we look for creative ways to handicap ourselves.

Some things I have done in the past to handicap my team was to only field teenaged (or under 21) players, only players older than 40, and once only female players (the league started generating them around 2030).

What kinds of extreme handicaps have you put on your teams?

I have my teams play with one hand tied behind their back.

But really, I haven't created any "house rules" yet or anything. I'm managing my team every game. We are in first place by one game and we are 107 games into the season. If I were to start dominating, I would come up with something. I will watch this thread for ideas.

I took over an expansion team. The first year we had a losing record. Since then, we have not won less than 114 games and have won as many as 135. I have been thinking about handicapping in some way, but I don't like doing that. I never really have. I just find myself wishing the AI could be more clever, but I think we'll need some more years before we start seeing AIs able to do things like learning from their mistakes.

I have been considering setting trades to hard. I seem to be able to trade a superstar in his prime for multiple 20-22-year-olds who are future stars. But I'm hesitant to handicap like that because I know I'm handicapping.

More to ctorg than to the subject of the thread...

For the trading aspect, I don't initiate trades with the computer unless I'm absolutely desperate to fill a hole mid-season with no viable free agent options. Even then I load the trade slightly in favor of the computer. I will allow myself trades that the computer initiates, however. I reject most of the ones they propose, but sometimes I get decent offers.

I always try to make money every season, running it like a business. If I'm making a pennant run I'll allow some salary addition at the trade deadline if it looks worth it.

I don't enjoy consistent dominating teams - I get bored. I enjoy rebuilding and scrapping it out for the division year in and year out.

every once in a while ill throw a position player in as a SP.
its quite funny when half the time they hit the batter or throw BB's.

but then again quite great when they strike out 6 in a row.
