Arguing Calls

What is the point of this? I never seem to get a call changed and I almost always get thrown from the game leaving my dumb**** pitching coach to give my closer 2+ innings work.

What's the point of it in the majors? How often do those calls get changed.

This has been beaten to death in several other threads... see this one for some thoughts and impressions:

just a piece of advice MikeB you might want to tone down your anger it doesn't play very well on this board ... in my limited knowledge there never has been a call changed by arguing in the history of baseball ... a manager who goes out to argue a call isn't trying to get that call changed .... he is trying to swing calls in his favor later in the game

That's the impression I got (read the first page of the linked thread, but didn't get very far). If I went out and argued a call or two, the umps might give me a break on a the next close call.

I have no statistical evidence whatsoever to back up my claims. Let me repeat: I haven't a leg to stand on. I just think that's what happens.

It's a silly, useless cosmetic function in the game. Its only real point is to create an xx% chance that you will not be able to play out the rest of your game because you've been ejected.

If I recall, this was a "new feature" some people thought would be "cool." Use it if you like it. I pretend that it doesn't exist. (like The Godfather III)

I didn't think it was agressive, it's just that we get this issue over and over and over...

Sounds like the words of the last umpire I argued with....

Sidenote. All of you have been generally considerate with your answers and links when responding to my questions - even the ones that have been asked before. If there _are_ some issues that have 'been beaten to death' in your history, then perhaps these could be included in the the FAQs along with a brief look at how best to use the search function.

Most of us are thick-skinned, but would hate to think we'd ever scare off a potential enthusiast because he'd asked a question one more time than we felt up to answering it. "You're......outta here!!!" No pointing fingers. Just a thought.

See ya.

I find it interesting how everyone is concerned about repeating a subject that was (or may have been) covered before. I could understand it is there were more than 2 or 3 worthwhile threads created a day, but as it is it seems a bit anal retentive.

I never argue a call. I used to but after getting tossed and having to watch my starter get shelled because the coach would not pull him late in game, I decided it was not worth it.

The only call I know of that was changed after much arguing was George Brett's pine tar homerun that was ruled an out and then changed back to a homerun. But the call was changed by the league president and not the umpires on the field.
