Importing Players Early
This question involves the Lahman database and importing players well before their debut year.
An example I'm going to use is importing Ichiro Suzuki (2001 debut) for the 1996 season. I noticed that if you were to just import him as normal (with 1996 as the import year) the ratings will always suck. My workaround was to import him with 2001 as the year, and then change his birthyear (which gets automatically adjusted) back to the accurate year. My question is if there are any problems with doing this? How does it affect player development? Will the player retire at an extremely early age? |

My impression is that he will probably not retire early, that OOTP will judge him based on his birth date whether it was his 1996, 2001 or 2006 self that was imported, it doesn't "know" that the imported player file is older. If anything, his development might be altered in that if his potential ratings are higher than his actual ratings, he has a better shot at reaching them, since he's younger.
Of course, you could always create a copy of your league files, and simulate a few years to see if he actually does retire early.
