TB 2.0.28 beta available - It's MS Vista compatible!

I've just uploaded the first update since quite a long time

This new version is not official yet, but will be as soon as I'm getting some positive feedback here. I've tested it on Windows XP 32 bit and on MS Vista 64 bit and it works fine.

There are no changes regarding the game itself and no changes to the database at the moment. The new build has the version number 2.0.28. When you start the new version it will not show any splash screen now. It's built using the MS Visual Studio compiler and linker instead of the MS VC6 tools. I've enabled all the optimization options and it seems to run a little bit faster now. And most important: TB uses the latest eLicense toolkit now which is MS Vista compatible.

So all the Vista users who have been waiting to install TB on their brand new operating system, please give it a try now and let us know if it works on your computer. Also everybody who want to help us with testing, please give it a try and let us know whether it works on your computer.

You can install just on top of the existing version, but please make a backup of your boxing universes first!

Download TB 2.0.28 (beta) here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/tb/tb2setup.exe

Thank you! Have fun!

No problems. I have a call into Austin to see if it works on his laptop.

I downloaded at a different computer than I have my universe on. I just let it overlay the old installation and all went well. I ran some fights and things looked good.

I am going to save the real universe tonight and give this a try there as well.

Chris, I did the same. The only thing I noticed that was different is that in the "Common" file photos of the updated fighters without photos reverted back to the original universal photo.

I'm not sure what that means jofre (tired today LOL) but I just loaded it and my universe looks fine. Seemed to load a little faster too although that could be my imagination.

I think Dan may be referring to the alternate generic photos that some of us loaded.

Link to thread

We had generics for the various ethnicities that would load if the ethnicity section was filled out on the fighter profile.

Perhaps the new install overwrites those. I can check tonight if Dan does not confirm that is what he means.

No changes to the game or database? uh......thanks....I guess?

So the only thing this does is remove the splash screen and make it so Vista people can use it. Is this right?

It is great to hear that TBII works well on vista. I'm in the market for another lap top this fall. My current one will be three years old at that time. Strat-o-matic and actionpc also work on vista so I'm all set.

Great job Andreas. This new version runs a lot faster and it seems to be working fine. I'm glad to see people who have Vista can use the game without dealing with all those errors. That is always the biggest fallback when a new OS comes out.

Old Database, and new patch

Andreas;

I did not download the latest database, will this have an affect on the game if I download and install the new patch? I did not download the DB because I could not change the extension names on my files which is what it seemed like your instructions were telling me to do.

Working for me on XP. The overall loading of the game from the time I start until all files are downloaded is a little longer, but clicking through the fight card set-up seems to have less lag.

Yes, that's right. I've also used a modern compiler and linker so TB will probably run a little bit faster now.

This will have no effect. If you install the patch, the default database will be overwritten. This will have an effect as soon as you create a new database in TB, because it will use the current database then, which is good
So just install the patch - your current database will not be changed in any way.

I WANT A RUDIMENTARY RANDOM FIGHTER GENERATOR!

There, I said it. That's the only feature I care about. I want to hit a button, and VOILA! Have a fighter created. He may be a god. He may be a joke. I don't care.
