Let me just say that I go to every league to see what's going on around me. The first thing I note on your website: You can't view the Members List. To me, if I ever consider joining a league, I want to see who I'm playing with.
And not trying to pick on you, but going to your site drives my point. It's restricted access to see who the league owners are. Are you kidding me? You running this thing out of the Pentagon!? I just don't get it. This is online league baseball, not national security. I see these.... ME --->

Hey James, I don't know why you felt the need to diss John's league. It is a good league (I'm one of the owners) and while I've seen much better websites for leagues, John is on top of things and is consistent with the sims so far. I run leagues too and we all run them the way we feel is right so let John set up his league and run it the way he feels it should be and if the owners don't like it, then they will leave it. But, I think it was unnecessary for your to do this.
Good luck to both of you and your leagues.

Well Dan, since we're on a first name basis... If you had actually paid just a little more attention to my comments, you'll note I indicated that it was going to his site (since I go to many for observation, see who's in it, etc) that prompted the message. And, again as noted, I was speaking in general. So take it as you will, but my point is intended to speak to leagues that feel compelled to be so private. There's absolutely nothing about his league that would attract my interests. I have nothing to base it on. In fact, I went back to his site after he wrote to find the Owners List that's in the forums (which I still can't find). I can understand preventing spammers...but you know there are ways around that without being private. Here's my real point: I'm not a huge fan of forums. In fact, with running my league for 7 years, it's the fact my mailing list sometimes takes a whole day for a message to be distributed that's making me get one for my league. To have me "sign up" for yet another forum anytime I might want to join a league, just to be "considered". That's more effort than I'm willing to do. I don't force anyone I bring on to sign up for anything. We have a good, honest, mature discussion, and I decide to give them a shot or not. Then I subject them to the getting setup process. Simpler, less time consuming, and much much less clutter. Not to mention, by doing it this way, I have complete control over unwanted material. So, Dan...since you felt you had to defend John, let me remind you that you should really make sure you read a message completely before you go firing off for absolutely no reason except to increase your post count. I appreciate the intent of what you're saying, but since you didn't get my point originally, your point is totally irrelevant. Alas, I'm here to wish John well running his league. Being a Red Sox fan might've propelled me to check his out, but I like knowing who I'm playing with. Playing in leagues for over 13 years has given me that experience to do so.

I'm in the league as well, and will concur that John's doing a great job of running it, and has implemented some creative ways to keep things interesting. I would encourage anyone looking for a 2007 league to sign up on our wait list.
eMLBcommish (since you seem to have a problem with people using your name), it seems that every time someone makes a post in this forum you feel the need to rip on what the guy is doing in his league. Not just John, but darn near everyone who post an announcement gets a reply from you, and we all get to hear about how you've been running your league for 7 years and why what you do is so much better than what they're doing. I think maybe you're the one who needs to look at how you come across, because very little of it is constructive. Guys like you could be very helpful to those starting up leagues, and that may be your intent but it gets lost in the sarcasm and chest thumping. I'm sure you'll feel the need to attack me the way you did huskerdan, and that's fine. All I'm trying to say is that you could be a great help to our little on-line community if you'd realize that using your experience to help new commishes out will take nothing away from you own accomplishments. |

I disagree with you, mblake9476. I do not come to the Online League forum trolling. In fact, I challenge you to name me all the posts that are demeaning and spiteful. I do not reply to every announcement. In fact, the only other announcement that got criticism from me is because the Commish can't seem to explain if his league belonged in this forum or another because there is a difference between OOTP 6 and OOTP 2006. Other than that, the first page of most recent forums I've commented on (besides advertising) is on: "The Mechanics of Simming" (Where I absolutely ripped him apart so much, he thanked me for it!): http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=146220 I had some comments about online "pay" leagues, and my opinion on how to even remotely do it without integrity concerns: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=146115 And my brief chiming in that while I don't believe in labeling myself the best league, I chimed in this thread to so people could see for themselves and decide: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=146189 I do, indeed, have an open door policy. The problem is that no one has ever used it. Not once have I ever had a John, or a Dan, or anyone else contact me to ask me "How are you still going after so long?!". I'd say 2/3rd of the posts in this forum have only been advertisement of my league and needing new blood. So explain to me, mblake9476...how is that ripping every announcement apart? I see a lot of threads I've not said anything, because I don't have anything to say. So I don't think I'm really a negative person looking for a cyberfight. I do ask that you please have your facts straight before you make such antagonistic accusations, though, to be perceived as a fair member of the OOTP community. Your above comments directed at me are inaccurate. I expressed my opinion on a general concern I have. Perhaps my personal issues have strained my judgement of objectivity recently, and I come across as jaded. Perhaps no one gets my point. I don't know. Here's a quick fact: From Dan's sig in his post, I went to his websites. I viewed his Ownership List. I now know that robster1225 is in his leagues, as well as my own. I have something to base my potential interest on if he ever needs new owners. My preferred style is playing in a league where I know some of those that are there. This way, I should know: - Potential maturity level of the league - Potential integrity issues of the league - Is this league worth my time? (If someone I know is in it, that tells me yes.) I don't have this luxury in John's league, unless I apparently sign up for a forum. I don't know what else to tell you, mblake9476. And by the way, my friends call me "LB". That's gotta be earned, though.

Well its really a simple website mainpage as of now, it does have the league stat pages for viewing (TO ALL who check the mainpage out) Our mainpage will grow as I add more features soon, 2nd the ownerlist is double posted for viewing in our forums under the proper catagory (Join/open teams/ waiting list)
I make websites for a living for companys, and while keeping spammers out by making the forums private for league members is the way to go.. guests can check out the league pages without joining, and there is a feedback button for any questions they have. Also as our mainpage grows with more info guests will have more to look at. Id rather keep private forums to prevent 1000's viagra, porn posts that I have to ban IP's and Delete.... If you have a problem with it, then I cant help you... enjoy your league, we will enjoy mine.. |

Anyway, this was a post dealing with finding some potential new owners and really wasn't there for you or anyone else to come over to criticize. I hope this doesn't become a trend, where everytime a commissioner posts looking for owners, a commissioner from another league complains about some aspect of that league. I'm sure you run a fine league and John does as well. John isn't going to go to your league website when you post for owners and complain about some aspect of it here. My point is made and that is the end of it as far as I'm concerned. I probably wouldn't have said anything if you weren't a commissioner of a league yourself but it sure looked like one commissioner trying to state somehow that John's league was inferior (to yours or anyone else's) because of the complaint you have about the privacy of the league. That is John's prerogative. BTW, I referred to you by your first name to be respectful. You can certainly call me Dan and I won't be offended. So, even though I don't know you, I do know your name is James so that is how I addressed you.

In the threads you provided links for you're correct, you were both courtious and helpful and I read your responses out of context. My general remarks against you were unnecessary and I apologize for it. You were however rude to John and Dan in this thread but I admit I overreacted.

I just want to say that LB and Dan both run fine leagues, and I'm glad to be in both. I know this wasn't very constructive or helpful, but I did feel that this thread needed some positive words.

I'm just going to cut my "losses" and apologize to John, whom I've already wished him success in his league. He can run his league however he wants. It's his right since he pays the bill. That I'll never refute.
Everyone else here is apparently in his league, so you're piling on. That's fine. Good for you to support your Commish. I'm apparently learning from this that I'm more angry about my mother in law's baseball sized lung cancer diagnosed last Tuesday, as well as the patriarch of my family on life support and not likely to make the weekend. I'm self-enforcing a temporary exile for a few days, until things are in order. So much for not believing in using an excuse, LB... As for this thread, I'm washing my hands of it. I'm not bothering reading it any further, so save your energy if you have anything directed my way. My general comments are taken out of context because I should have written in my very own thread so no one appeared singled out. Let it get back on topic. Get in John's league, and kick everyone else's ass in this room. I would hope they would want some one that competitive and involved. That's what really makes a league great. Maybe I should get in this league...some of you need to be taught respect.

I'm actually not in his league, for the record.

If John had asked for feedback on the quality of the site, it would have been one thing. He did not. eMLB's attack was inappropriate and unnecessary. |
