Owners are not patient
1955 I manage Brooklyn and we win the World Series
1956 I manage Brooklyn and we win the World Series 1957 A multitude of injuries and the second rate players finish second 12 games out and i get fired. I remember the Dodgers has patients with managers ie: Walt Alston and Tommy Lasorda.. I guess I just have to make sure that players do not get injured so I do not lose my job

Have healthier players? I think made this comment before, the computer owners are modeled after the Big Stein himself, George, King of the Yankees.... You might have even been replaced by Billy Martin.

How'd the finances go for those years? Did you lose money? Owners care about the bottom line, and Markus has said that the bottom line of the organization is a factor on whether you are fired or not.

Just out of curiosity, exactly when does the OOTP firing happen ?
From what I've read, it seems a little out of whack (or at least I've read numerous complaints). So what I'm thinking is to make myself commissioner for the "firing week" or whatever the time period is. Is this a doable workaround ? Or is it even neccessary (like you can "refuse" the firing, or you can easily grab your team again immediately, and the AI doesn't do stupid shizzit in the two seconds your not GM) Last edited by DougWyatt; 04-26-2007 at 11:44 AM. |

I would like to find some other way for the game to handle this. I play in Commish mode because it bites when you get fired questionably. Also you have to be in commish mode to fully set up a solo league. However, I don't like the perks that come with playing in commish mode such as advantages when hiring coaches, etc. This is probably something that can be expanded/modified for 2008.

Sounds like a pain, but would be pretty easy. |

I had a manger that was 1.0 game back then lost 5 in a row and was 7.0 games back (27-34) and got fired.

For instance, have four setting for firing: 1) none 2) easy 3) medium 4) hard this wouldn't affect how the players performed or how easy the game was like the older versions did but it would affect how harshly the owner judges you. Then I would seperate some of the editing functions. I understand that a lot of them are in there for online league integrity but maybe code it so some of the features (such as park editing) are readily available without being in commish mode for a solo leaguer. Kind of nit picky and I wouldn't have brought it up if someone hadn't. |

Winning two world series in a row should result in a healthy bottom line and not being fired IMO

Walt Alston was never signed to a contract longer than 1 year.

I actually got another manager fired. I was simming a game and after I won the opposing manager got fired. I am sure he reached his won-loss % with the manager, but it was funny to see. This was only after 1 full season and 30 games in to the next. He must have been on a short leash.

Yeah, but I don't think anyone in OOTP has personal quibbles with ownership. And if that is the reason you get fired (as was Girardi) then it should be an option

I wasn't here, but didn't OOTP 6 have 'patient' owners and ones that were more touchy? I'm having no problems with my guy so far:
1901: Owner wants me to win it all. I take the AL pennant but lose the as yet unnamed championship. 1902: Ditto and ditto. 1903: Owner wants me to make the playoffs. I barely beat .500 for 3rd place. I think MUCH of this has to do with financials. |

I've been fired twice, and I've only owned the game for 3 weeks.
![]() The AI has no patience. I took over a lousy team that went .380 the previous year. I barely made .500 ball and got canned. I had the financials set to "rebuild," and I was indeed rebuilding. I think the game would benefit from more owner information, including 1) how spendthrift they are, 2) how much they wish to win (the Eagles and Phillies went years with owners that had no desire to win, and therefore didn't really care about anything except profitability) 3) General reputation - bonkers, average, supportive, patient. |

Allow me, as a first-season player, to bump DougWyatt's question: Exactly when does the firing week occur? I too would like to arrange to prevent the wholesale sacking of managers, and if it's mostly all happening at once, I'd like to be prepared.

13-21? Obviously you were past your prime, my friend.
I do agree more info on the owners would be nice. A GM would know more about what his boss expects than "win." Personally, I'd like to see the 'personal' aspect of it - wife/kids/money/etc. - come back as well. That looked like fun ![]() EDIT: Vox - It CAN happen mid-season, but the majority occur between the period when the regular season ends, and the playoffs end. The most likely time is directly after the completion of the playoffs, but anytime your under .500 it might happen

There should be a warning before you get fired, like the owner gives you a "vote of confidence". This usually happens right before a manger gets fired.
