Exclamation Outrageous Salary Demands?

Hello all,

I just started up a league with the financial settings of 1965. In the league settings it lists the super star caliber player making around $980,000. I have just reached my first free agency period. After simming through the entire thing, I noticed not a single free agent was picked up by any club. I looked at the free agent pool, and saw that the majority of 5 star players were asking for $4 mil and up! How does this happen? Is there a setting I need to adjust? Entire team salary's are less than double what these guys are asking for per year. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

On the plus side, the AI managers didn't sign any of the overpaid babies either...

Did you pass the point at which the next year's financials were auto-loaded, perhaps?

I'm not really following...as this is my first season using 2007 I don't know what points I passed, and what those points meant functionality wise.

Dola

Ok so I just found the "next years financials" option in the league setting menu. I have checked it, so now I want to make sure of something before I waste a whole year. Assuming I go through another year, the FA's that are currently asking for $4 mil, assuming they are not picked up at all, after the new financial setting are loaded, should be asking for reasonable money again...yes? no?

Whoever knows for sure, please let me know.

Danke

Yeah they will be re-calced, but they will lower their demands during the season when they realise they are not going to get picked up.

Ok...I ran into an issue though. I have a couple other leagues running side by side (Japanese, Taiwan) and they were signing these guys to $5+ mil/per contracts. I had to just completely delete the league and start fresh...sucks.

It seems to me, setting the expected salaries is only part of the equation. If the teams have the money to spend, they will use it and salaries will rise regardless of the what's in the "typical salary" field.
Also, I've seen these type of demands, then the player signs the first week of April for much less, because no team was willing to pay that much.

Also, players look at the entire universe when deciding what to ask for...if they see that Japanese teams have the cash to pay them $5 mil. and they believe they have the talent to play in the Japanese league then they are going to ask for that type of money...even if you have the U.S. league financials scaled down. The other leagues probably need to be scaled down as well to avoid the best players leaving for greener pastures.

In my limited experience FAs usually ask for VERY high figures - because its free agency. That's how it works. Once they realize no one's biting they'll start coming down to reasonable levels.

Or retire. Which is good for the league. Get the crybabies out while you can!
