Automaton Baseball League

- OOTP version: OOTP 2007, game required
- Sim schedule: sims are done every Monday covering 15 days at a time

I think this could be a good starter league to get a novice used to participating in online leagues in a very relaxed, low pressure environment. I know the concept may seem "odd", but it will have all the basics of an online league without some of the more complicated features / rules.

The league will feature “automatons” that make up 75% of each team's roster. These automatons will be exactly the same (all automatons ratings are based on actual 1983 MLB league totals) and each team will have the same number. The rest of the league rules are listed below...

-- finances, coaches, scouts, injuries, fatigue OFF / disabled

-- 120 to 180 game schedule depending on number of teams

-- league will use 1983 MLB season as a baseline for league average stats

-- sims will cover 15 days and be done once a week every Monday night, 8:00PM CST deadline for submitting exports

-- 24 man active rosters featuring 18 automaton players. The remaining 6 players are chosen by the owner from the history of Major League Baseball, the Negro League, and/or Japanese League between 1901 and 2006. No limitation to number of historical batters / pitchers a team may have. Players will be imported and have their ratings based on one season only. Players must have had a minimum of 300 plate appearances or 50 games/100 innings pitched to be eligible in the season selected for import. Certain exceptions will be made if a player does not meet the minimum requirements, but the player’s OPS is within +5% of the league average OPS in the requested season (ie, the “Ross Gload rule”).

-- All players (automatons and real players will enter the league as 18 years as of April 1st of the current league year).

-- Historical / real players can be repeated and will have additional letters/numbers added to their name to distinguish them.

-- NO rookie draft... new automatons will be created to replace any retiring automatons.

-- 1 historical player may be replaced at the end of any losing season. Otherwise historical players can only be replaced when they retire. If an historical player is replaced, all other teams have the option of claiming the player and releasing one of their own. This option is open to all teams and does not count toward the historical player replacement limit. At any one point in time, each team may only have 6 historical players on their team.

-- no minor league / reserve roster. Any players not on active roster/disabled list will be in free agent pool and available on a first come/first served basis.

-- DH will be used for all teams

-- pitcher endurance set to high

-- use closers and stealing set to rare, all other league settings set to normal

-- teams can use any historical MLB ballpark or create their own (please stay between 65 and 135 for all ballpark factors). Once all ballparks are created, league totals will be modified accordingly (ie, if all the ballpark factors do not average to 1, league totals will be adjusted to account for the difference)

-- teams have to be in actual cities, but can be anywhere on earth

-- stadium capacity will not be used, but set to 45,000 for each stadium

-- team mascots/nicknames/logos can be anything, but should be realistic and must meet decency standards (no nudity, swear words, suggestive names, etc...) The commissioner has the final say on what is acceptable

-- Foreign player % set to 20%, but should be unused by game

-- player development disabled, players will always have same ratings throughout duration of career

-- NO all-star game

-- awards chosen by owner/GM voting. only Historical/Real players eligible

-- playoffs, league schedule, other league rules to be established based upon interest in league.

-- trading of historical players is permitted. All trades must be 1 for 1, 2 for 2, etc… Automatons can not be traded or released. Additional trading rules to be determined.

40 views and no interest?!?

I am proceeding with 12 teams for the first season. As of right now there is 1 opening, but could be as many as 4 as I have yet to hear from 3 people that initially said they would join. League file will be posted Monday the 16th with the first sim done on Monday, April 23rd.
