Best CF in Baseball??

I'm not talking about who would you take this season, or next season....if you had the choice to take 1 CF and put him on your team....anyday, anytime....who would it be?

Erstad, Hunter, and Berkman are listed before such unknowns as Mantle? (or the Duke)

Berkman has played only 40 of his 311 games in CF (prior to 2002). How did he make the list? Must be his stellar defensive range (2.30 in a league that averages 2.59 at CF). Maybe I'm forgetting the Gold Gloves he's won.

You said we could take one CF and put him on our team. Wouldn't he then have to bat?

When looking for the best defensive CFer, how can you list one from the 1910s, one from the 1940s, one from the 1960s, and 6 from the present (including one that has only played 40 games in CF prior to 2002)? Ever hear of Tris Speaker, Max Carey, Curt Flood, etc.

thanks Moyer, for actually being of some help to the post. Maybe others should follow suit. Wouldn't want to mention any names or anything...

Not quite old enough to remember many cf's known for their defense, but I agree with Moyer.

He is better than some of the players that are on this list.

So his OS is better, I am sure Soriano's is too but does that make him the greatest all time second baseman or is he overrated

I really do not think that Kirby Puckett belongs on an all time CF list. Of course neither do Berkman, A. JOnes, Ersatd, Hunter or Edmonds.

Try: Mays-Mantle-Snyder-Dimaggio-Griffey(?)-Cobb-Speaker-Dawson-Ashburn-Lynn.

Kirby would definitely be in the second 10 though where the others listed above playing today would not.
