Shop Player - I'm doing something wrong ...

Hello all - I'm a lurker ... a faithful player from 3 to 6.5, tried the demo of 2006 but made the painful decision not to buy, and have bought 2007 after reading all the positive buzz. I find it impressive but daunting, which is par for the course. Thanks to you all for your time and effort in cataloguing everything positive (and even negative) about this great series.

Now, a question: I cannot get 'Shop Player' to work at all, even after consulting the manual. On the 'Shop a Player' subpage, when I drag any player to the box, nothing happens - the box remains empty. The manual says another option is right-clicking the player, but 'Trade Options' submenu doesn't contain a selection for 'Shop Player'.

So, clearly I'm doing something wrong or missing a toggle somewhere

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I do it from the player page itself (not the sion profile but the team one), using the ACTION drop-up menu. TRADE OPTIONS>>>>Shop Player Around. I've made a ton of deals this way.

Question

Thanks for the quick reply, it's good to know there's yet another way it's supposed to be possible ... but that's also not appearing for me.

For any player on my 40-man roster, the 'Action' drop-up menu does not contain a 'Trade Options' submenu ... at all.

For my minor-leaguers, the 'Action' drop-up menu has the 'Trade Options' submenu ... but the only selection is 'Trade for Player'. There is no option available for Shopping the player.

Quite frustrating ... what could the constraints be? I'm still in January (game-time), does that matter? Is there a toggle somewhere to turn this ability on or off? Thanks ...

Good thinking, but that's not it ... 'Enable Trading' is checked, and I can make regular 'offer you this for that' trades ...

OK, maybe a dumb question, but... are you sure it's 2007 instead of 2006?

Hmm ... after I try (unsuccesfully) to drag three players into the box, I do get the message that 'You may not shop any more players today!'

But my point is that I get nothing to happen up to that point ... and moving to the next day, I see the same behavior with three fresh attempts.

What is the behavior when no counter-offers are received ... does the drag-and-drop still work? (Does the box populate with the player name, instead of - as I'm seeing - nothing happening)?

And yes ... it's version 2007

It says, "No team offers a one-for-one trade" on the right side of the Shop a Player Screen.

Thanks ... the manual doesn't show that. I've never seen it, which means what I thought it meant: my attempts aren't really working.

Advancing one day does no good ... same stuff, different day

I'm really puzzled, but this has to have a simple solution ... thanks to all for your continued feedback until resolved ...

have you tried closing the game and restarting? Have you tried trading a player in a different league (create a fictional lg to test or something) just to see if it works for you there? Could it be the time of the season you are in?

Are you sure you aren't trying to trade a player that no one wants? Try simming a day so that you can have you 3 shop offers back and then try shopping your best player and see if that works.

Have tried re-starting the application ... good advice, but no dice.

Let me try to explain a bit better: take a look in the manual at Figure 388, Trade Options. (Page 364 ... lol).

On that menu ... I see all of the options except for 'Shop Player Around'. It's not greyed out - it's simply not there. I see four options instead of five.

Next I'll try going to a different league and see if something is squirrelly with this one ...

[EDIT] Well, good news of sorts ... the problem is league-specific! A new startup league doesn't behave this way for me. At least I found that out before I spent any more time than the 1.5 days I've already spent customizing the league ...

Still ... it has to be a setting somewhere ... doesn't it? Any other thoughts would be welcome. Thanks to all for your time.

something to try--save you league and make a copy of the folder and then try to simulate until the season starts and see if it shows up then.

If you are shopping crappy players sometimes the AI teams will not make any offers. I can't remember if you get any sort of message stating this or if the right side of the screen where the players you can trade for remains blank.

Try shopping a good player around and see if it works.

Resolved, but not explained

I have resolved the issue with this league as follows:

Turned on Commissioner Mode. Tried to shop players; menu option was still not available. Drag and drop (shopping) still did not work.

Changed 'Act as' to another team. Tired to shop THEIR players ... that worked fine, the menus were back to normal.

Changed 'Act as' back to my team, and turned Commissioner Mode off. The menus (and player shopping) now work normally again.

To me, this is perhaps a small bug somewhere, but since I have resolved it, I'm not terribly worried about it unless someone wants to follow up. Thank you all for your good suggestions, it got me to thinking as to different ways to test and solve.

did you ever try simulating a day forward and checking to see if the option popped up?

Yes, I had tried 'finishing day' several times, and that didn't shake it loose.
