Angry What's the point?

The install program askes me where I want to put OOTP BASEBALL 2007 and it puts part of the program there, but then it puts all the data in my documents area on drive C, WHERE I DO NOT WANT IT!

Necessary for compatibility for Windows Vista. Get used to it, it's the future. All new programs will soon be doing it.

However, if you want the files going somewhere else, the option to move them is in Game Preferences.

Move your My Documents folder.

SSG,

That options appears to only move the few files that went where I wanted them.

Not according to your original post. As far as I can tell, you were happy with where the program installed. Using the game preferences, you can tell OOTP to find the data folder (by default installed into your My Documents or Documents folder) somewhere else.

Maybe I'm just goofy. I'll try fooling with it and let you know. Thanks!

I'm always inclined to let the game do what it defaults doing, unless I know what I'll do won't screw anything up. First thing I did was go to the My Documents...etc...Sports Interactive Folder and create a shortcut to it on my desktop. That way anything I need to find, I can find fairly quickly and it's still placed where designed.

Ahh.. I see. I thought the emphasis of your orginal post was that you didn't want it on the C drive. Now I see that you don't want the saved games stored in the My Documents area. Looks like Troyer's suggestion will probably work.

I really wanted everything on my D drive because my C drive is too full. I bet I'm not the only one with that situation.

You're not the only one. A solution was developed yesterday by battists & Andreas.

Technically, that's not quite the solution. That's for the whole network drive thing, and it's only that complicated because the network drive prevents the game from booting up at all.

This easier way should work:

1. Enter a custom data path in the Game Preferences page
2. Move all of the files from C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data to the new custom folder.
3. Restart OOTP

Documents go in your "my documents" folder. This is a Windows standard, and it makes sense. If you use the system like it was intended to be used, you always know where personal data is kept. So when you get a new PC, or you do a backup, you only need to worry about the data in c:\documents and settings\...

If you don't like where the documents and settings folder is, move it.

And quit bitching when a software publisher gets something right. God knows, the majority do it wrong

Ranger,

Don't worry about all of the crabby people. Trust me, the beta team discussed this with Markus & crew ad-infinitum, but to get Vista compatibility, it was a requirement.

Just try the steps I posted a few posts up, and let us know how it works, please!

I believe I have a solution, at least it worked for me. I have the 'My Documents' folder pointing to my E:/ Drive partition. Windows then asks if you want to update all links and defaults to point there. Say yes, then install the game. It automatically puts all that information in my E:/My Documents and away from my C:/ Drive.

Of course, that will work with a D:/ or whatever other drive partition you may use. But I had done that (moving My Documents to my E:/) months before installing this game, mind you.

Hope that helps in some small way.

battists,

Thanks for not being crabby!

I did as you said, going as far as eliminating up to OOTP Baseball\data as I wanted to place this in the directory that the install DID let me pick, but not overwrite the data folder that is there. I renamed OOTP Baseball 2007 to BASEBALL WORLD and now it is working fine.

"C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data"

"D:\OOTP BASEBALL 2007\BASEBALL WORLD\data"

Thanks for your help!

AND if it's anybody's concern, I DO NOT download a lot of games! Just Great one's like OOTP!!!

That's exactly what I've done as well. Pointed it to D where I have tons of space. Works like a charm.

Changing the default location of the My Documents folder is what I did. It's not something I wanted to do, but since I don't keep any of my own document files in it anyway (I prefer custom locations), changing the My Documents default location wasn't a big deal.

I don't like data on my C: drive other than my operating system, as I usually end up reformatting C: and re-installing the OS a couple times a year.
