3037 - Waiver claims

More 40-man roster/options issues...

I just claimed two players off waivers. Both were on the major league rosters of their former clubs and both were out of options. The E-Mails I received informing me of my successful claims both said the players in question would be placed in my designated for assignment area. This is not what happened. Instead they were both placed on the roster of one of my minor league clubs, and neither was on my 40-man roster.

This should not have happened. When claiming a player off waivers, I should be required to immediately place that player on the 40-man roster. If that player also happens to be out of options, I should also be required to add him to my 25-man roster as well. If I want to send that player to the minors instead, I should be required to designate him for assignment and place then him on waivers.

Dola,

This is odd, but I claimed another player off waivers who was out of options, but this time he was properly placed in my designated for assignment area. Either way, there's a glitch somewhere in there that prevents this from always being the case.

Cobalt, forgive me, I'm not as "up" as you are on the weird ways of waivers.

Are you saying that the correct rule for this is as follows?

When you successfully claim a player that is out of options, he must be placed on the 40-man roster immediately.

When you successfully claim a player that has options, he can be designated for assignment.

Is that what you're saying? If I'm going to get Markus to change this, I just want to make sure it's done right. Also, can you point me to any documentation of this?

Also,
