Redundancy Problem?

I bought OOTP 6 and 6.5 at the end of January, the game was working fine for about 2 weeks, had no problems whatsoever. I have no idea how but somehow I think I got a virus. I cleaned that out enough so that my computer would actually connect to the internet again, bought a registry cleaner and used ad-aware SE personal. So in order to get the game working again I had to uninstall and reinstall and start the season over, I did that. 2 days later whenever I tried to open 6.5, the game would load so that I could see the outline of where the game is setup on the screen but would never actually load so that I could see the screen. Then a message saying the program is not responding popped up and it automatically exited me.

Ok, so I try to uninstall and reinstall 6 and 6.5 again. 6 works good right now but when I try to reinstall 6.5 I get a message before it completes installation saying "The file 'C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6.5\Data\afnames.dat' could not be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."

I can't open the data folder in 6.5, it says my disk needs to be reformatted. Any ideas on how to finish the installation? I'm guessing since the game isn't installed I can't license it yet?

Hope this is posted on the right board. Thanks.

Never seen this before but I'd try deleting the first attempt, folder and all. Then delete the installation files also, reboot your system and d/l the install file again. You may want to run defrag before trying to install again. Not sure if this will work but this is what I'd try. BTW how much free HD space do you have?

Free disk space is 26.4 GB.

I tried deleting the folders, but the Data folder in 6.5 could not be deleted. I try deleting it and it says the Data folder is not empty so I click on properties and see that the size is 0 bytes and the folder contains 0 files and 0 folders. (Weird?) I try opening the folder and it says the disk in drive C is not formatted, and asks me if I want to reformat it. I was told by a neighbor to click no. Same thing with the skins folder.

I had a problem with the chat service Trillian. Everytime I rebooted the computer Trillian was causing the startup to take almost 15 minutes to load. I deleted everything in the program except a folder called cache, which has the same problem as above.

I don't know if this matters or not but I still have a file I saved called MLB2007.lg which is the league I was playing in before OOTP 6.5 stopped working. Should I delete that? I've ran virus checks and nothing comes up in that folder.

Also am I right that since the game isn't 100% installed, I can't e-license it yet?

Have you tried installing to a non-default directory?

try this

go to a command prompt and delete the folders that you assumed are empty but give you the format option. Then uninstall the game and reinstall with a fresh download. Also, delete the other folders on your system giving you problems (the cache folder). From the dos command prompt you should have no problem deleting these folders. After you do the new install defrag the drive. This should clear up your issue.

ok finally got this to work. I moved the folders that wouldn't delete into another folder and downloaded and installed 6.5 again. Thank you Mr. Kuffrey and PAR65.

However, now I have useless folders on my computer and they aren't being deleted through the command prompt. When I type in rmdir and the folder name a message pops up beneath it that says directory is not empty. I tried a program called Unlocker too but that doesn't work. It says the folder isn't locked and asks me what I want to do with the folder, I choose delete, Unlocker says successful but I still see the folder there, haha. My neighbor says she's going to help me delete them somehow so oh well, as long as I can play the game I'm happy.

Thanks again.
