ATH Needs 8!

Around the Horn was started March of 2003 with OOTP 5. We started in the 2003 season with the most current rosters available at the time, Total Minors. We are currently nearing Spring Training of the 2018 season.

While you will certainly recognize the names in the record books....we are nearly completely fictional at this point.

We nearly shut down with the move off of the official OLS servers...but with help from many of the loyal GM's...the league continues. We'd really like to get the league back to full strength now....enough with my rant....

Here are a list of the teams who are currently Available.

Anaheim Angels (84-78 2nd AL West)

Just 3 seasons ago the Angels were one of the best teams in the ATH winning 103 games, winning the West, and having 7 straight 90+ win seasons. Time and age eventually caught up with this team and they dropped to 68 and 84 over the past two seasons. The GM who was the mastermind behind their 7-year run knew he didn't have time for a rebuild, and ever since then its been a merry-go-round of impatient...need to win now GM's who failed to last one season. You'll need a little bit of patience or an aggressive trading style with this team...but if you think you fit the bill...let me know.

Los Angeles Dodgers (75-87 4th NL West)

The Dodgers have the 3rd best farm system currently in the league including the perhaps the best pitching prospect in the league in 24 year old John McHone with talents of 10/9/9. The team was pretty much abandoned last season so there are quite a few holes to be filled right now. Their payroll is right at 30.0 mil so plenty of room to add some big contracts in the future. Besides rebuilding, one of the fun aspects of taking the Dodgers is playing in a division that always seems up for grabs each season.

San Francisco Giants (97-65 1st NL West)

Over the past 5 seasons the Giants have won 3 divisional titles and have been one of the better teams in the West. They return a decent team this season but will need to fill out their roster if they want to contend. This team probably will just need some fine-tuning to stay close or at the top of this division. If you want a team that probably won't take forever to turn into a solid contender...this would be a good pick for you.

I will end by saying that this is one of the first leagues I ever joined when I finally took the plunge to join an online league. I'm the third commish in its history and an original owner. One of the best things I can say about this league is that when we were at our lowest point, with just 18 GMs out of the 30 teams, we had no permanent home with the closing of the OLS servers, and with GM's becoming harder and harder to come by for a 6.5 league...I asked the GM's if we were kicking a dead horse and perhaps we should close the league.

I had offers for hosting the league from one of the GM's on his own personal space, multiple offers to be a co-commish and help with simming duties, along with any other ways you could help with running an online league. The GM's were very loyal to the league to want to keep it going. There isn't much a better feeling running a league than the support those guys were willing to give. To me, it means alot.

I now look at this league as the energizer bunny...cuz no matter what seems to happen...we keep going and going....lol.

If you want to join a great mix of guys...from passive builders to aggressive traders...from long-time vets to guys who are still relatively new to the online game....then give ATH a try.

Wow - didn't realize we needed so many owners... If you looking for a league, this is a very solid one. I'm in about 7 online leagues and this is one of the best!!!

A little update on how the remaining open teams are faring a few sims into the season.

Chicago White Sox- Currently 5-17- last in the AL CENTRAL. Would currently have the #2 overall draft pick. Like a typical rebuilding franchise, needs some TLC and some patience in their new GM.

Anaheim Angels- Currently 14-11- 2nd in the AL WEST (2GB). This division is in transition with the usually dominant A's finally going into a rebuild mode. The Angels are one of those teams that could step up and become the new power of the division.

New York Mets- Currently 10-14- 4th in the NL EAST. A team that is still rebuilding...but with a little success to raise their fan interest...they should have the financial resources to be a front-runner in the East.

San Francisco Giants- Currently 16-9- 1st in the NL West. One of the better teams in the West. If you want to step into a situation where you are contending for a playoff spot...this would be a good choice.

Los Angeles Dodgers- Currently 15-10- 2nd in NL West (1GB). Has one of the better young rotation in the league, led by 24-year old John "Icon" McHone (4-0 2.05). A contender for the West as well as wild card. Much like the Giants, if you want a team that could make a little noise from the get-go...give the Dodgers a try.

The Dodgers have a bright young staff and are only a piece or two from being a consistent contender in the West.

San Francisco Giants (41-21 currently leading NL West)
Finally, the San Francisco Giants...who as of the last nights sim...have a .661 winning % which is tops in the ATH. If you want to be able to make some noise and be a contender right off the bat than the Giants are for you.
