PbP description doesn't add up

I had a runner on first who took with the pitch as part of a hit and run play. The batter hit a ground ball to 3B. The 3B made a throwing error, apparently throwing the ball "past the 1B." The runner from first only ended up on 2B. Now I can pretend the throw was just in the dirt and was not picked out or perhaps it took the 1B off the bag, but if a throw is so bad that it gets past the 1B, that runner is moving to third if not home...

It would also depend on how far in the 3rd baseman had to come in or was playing when he fielded the ball. If he charges the ball(and you didn't say how hard it was hit) and threw off-balance or side arm, the angle could carry the ball down the left field line. If this is the case, he'd get to second but the left fielder, as long as he saw what was going on, should be setting himself in-line with the throw, should it get past the first baseman, thus keeping the runner honest. If the groundball was to short or second, the story is different.

Just my take on the possibilities here.

I'll bet Fidel M. meant "right field line" and "right fielder" here.

Even with the runner running, the description originally read that the grounder "could mean two," so I'm guessing it was hit hard enough that the 3B didn't necessarily need to charge in for the ball and probably took a look at 2B. He then probably had enough time to make his throw and just threw it away. The runner was likely sliding into 2B, but he still would have had time to get up and move into third.
