Viruses in my League News Box files?

I had to do a destructive system recovery on my PC yesterday. I had backed up my OOTP folder to CD about a week earlier and hadn't played any games since, although I had opened the game and looked at some box scores, etc. for my MLB dynasty.

This morning, I copied the folder back onto the PC and find out that my League News Boxes are infested with a virus. I ran AVG on the folder and there's over 600 viruses in it!

I'll give more details on the virus name and the files infected when I get back home, but I was just wondering, has this ever happened to anyone else?

Thanks.

I forgot to say that when I open the game, all I get is a black screen with a thin white border around it.

I'd be shocked if this wasn't some sort of issue where the files were misread or something along those lines. If it is some sort of issue it is likely that an outside source caused this and not the game itself, otherwise it would have shown up long ago and on a widespread basis. Please keep us posted however.

Okay, I'm looking into this now and the viruses are being picked up by AVG but not by Norton. That doesn't really surprise me as IMO, AVG is a better product. The viruses are in the Html folder and my MLB.lg folder.

These are the names of the infected files in the Html folder:

Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6\Html\jqwzthqn.exe
Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6\Html\skstqtlr.exe
Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6\Html\zebjzkbe.exe

Are these files that come with the game? Judging by the jumbled file names, it doesn't look like it to me.

In the MLB.lg folder, there's over 600 of them, with names like:

Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6\MLB.lg\LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX\bbblhtte.exe

The virus identified is Worm/Allaple.B in every case.

What I've done is copy all the files from my CD to the C: drive except for the MLB.lg folder and the three infected files in the Html folder. I can now get into the game. I tried to set up a new league and as soon as I click on Generate League I get the Runtime Error message and the game shuts down.

VERY GOOD NEWS...

The problem has been fixed!

I see that I didn't make it clear in my earlier posts that the viruses were in the folders on my CD backup. How they got their I'll never know, but it doesn't really matter. What I did was go through the LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder on the CD and copied all the non-infected files over to the C: drive. Took about a half hour, but now the game is running OK.

* BIG SIGH OF RELIEF *

Hmm. One thing I've just noticed which was more than likely caused by the virus problem I had is that there is no information showing under CAREER HISTORY for any of the players. When I click on a player and his PLAYER PROFILE comes up, the area at the bottom right of the screen under CAREER HISTORY is blank. The same thing happens when I click on Player HTML Report. There's nothing under Player History there, either.

HOWEVER, when I go into my OOTP 6 folder, in the PLAYERS folder inside the LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder there are Notepad files such as p18 and p32 which appear to be the entries that usually appear in the CAREER HISTORY section.

Are these files supposed to be in some other location in order for them to show up on the Player Profile?

Thanks in advance of any assistance.

Okay, what I've just done is started up a standard league and run the first month of a season in it. The career history is showing for the players in this league, but it's still not showing in my MLB league.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?

I've simulated a week of games since I had the problem mentioned earlier in the thread and notes on injuries plus the Players of the Week have appeared in the Career Histories of the particular players that they relate to, but nothing is showing for the seven weeks of the season I'd played out prior to the problem.

Is there no one else who has had this problem and can give me some advice on what to do?

I was trying out a new virus scan program a few weeks ago and everytime OOTP generated an html page the scanner picked it up as a virus. I think some lazy code in the scanning software is picking up the HTML generation as a virus.

I've given up running a virus scanner on my system, i've gone back to simply scanning it once a week. i havn't had a virus in years doing it that way, so why change.

Thanks. I'll try that. But, do you know of any way for me to make it so that the Career History entries from the start of the season are visible again?
