Suggestions for the next version of OOTPBB
Hello, i know this has been asked before, but id really like to see some kind of animations in the game. Im not asking something like EA Sports MLB, but something like the ball animation in Puresim, or the pitcher and batter animations in Mogul Baseball. I guess it really helps to enjoy more the game, for the players that like to manage all the games and not just sim the entire season.
I really like this game, and i know there is still work to do with the AI and other things, but i guess the animations could really help to make this an even better game. |

Doubt it will be in 2007 but maybe in the future.

I'm convinced that "ball animation" of some sort will be in 2007. How hard can it be? Also, surely sound will return too.

I hope the ball animation is the big thing Markus talked about a few days ago.

I realize that minor animation and sound production would enhance the enjoyment of this game for some players. That makes it a good idea all around as OOTPB can only benefit from a strategy of inclusion and enlargement of its fan base.
Please make these optional, however. Some fans find them repetitive and distracting, myself included. The beauty of OOTPB for me is in its realism, its gameplay, and its ability to engage my imagination rather than entertaining me with sights and sounds. |

The primitive ball animation used in older (circa 2002) versions of Strat-o-Matic actually detracted from our enjoyment of the game. The ball looked like it was out of the park, but was caught (and vice versa); it looked like a grounder into the outfield, but was a liner direct to short; I could go on, but you get the point. The problem with S-o-M animation then was the same as the problem with P-b-P in OotP now — it didn't match the actual action on the field.
Another issue is playing time. I know I harp on this, but animation would only be worthwhile if it didn't slow this already dirt slow game down by another instant. The sound doesn't bother me as much; I'd just mute my speakers, even if there was no in-game option. |

My personal opinion on the animation issue is that it won't be worth a darn unless it's at least on a par with the animation in the old Front Page Sports Baseball Pro Series. Then we could scrap the PbP altogether! However, I don't consider this a necessity. OOTP is and always has been a text sim, and that's always been fine, and it always will be fine.
Edit: I'll second Curtis' opinion that it takes long enough to play out a game already. Last edited by Charley575; 12-31-2006 at 09:49 PM. |

Please no..
I hope they do not have animation. I don't see it adding much to the game and possibly even having a negative impact as others have mentioned previously (repitition, even slower etc.). I would rather the time and energy be put into even more accurate game play and other issues that do impact stats.

Same with the pbp. I would like to see the option of just getting a play result since the pbp gets repetitive plus it would speed up the play since I manage all 162 games for my team.

This was just suggested in the current PbP thread, albeit not for the first time, I'm sure. |

I really do not like the animations in the other games. It's repetetive and often confusing (a HR landing 30 feet in front of the fence!?). In the future we will add some sort of 2-D engine, but this won't be before 2008 since we want to do it right. |

I think adding animation could be a real problem if you are using your own ballpark images.

The first thing that will have to happen is that Markus/SI/whatever will have to open up the purse strings and hire an animation team. Having been in animation for quite a while, I can safely say that animators prefer to work in groups. About the only thing more pathetic than a lone animator is a jazz drummer.
