I think Joe Morgan would do a pretty good job.

ESPN's Mike Greenberg has started his campaign in earnest.

Bud says he wants to become a teacher.
Guess he'll teach students how to make piss-poor decisions.

Too long.. I would hope he would move on before that, but Bud hasn't ever had the best interests of baseball in mind during his tenure, anyway.

He's been a decent commissioner. Some good things have happened during his term in office; MLB is in better financial shape than when he took over. Unfortunately, he is going to be forever linked to the steroids scandal that took place on his watch. I know that he's been hampered by the players union in his response, but some of his inadequacy in this has come from his having been a fellow owner and a member of the good old boys club, IMO.

I thought it was a bad decision when he was elected and his performance since has not persuaded me different. Baseball needs a commissioner that has no ties to the owners or players. Someone with a strong personality, that could get things accomplished and not afraid of consequences. I don't see the owners letting go of their power in the Commissioner role, so that probably won't be changing anytime soon, sad to say.

110% agreed! I would love to someone like a Costas become the next commish. I think that MLB would benefit from an outside, knowledgeable, and recognizable person in that office. I have no real rooting interest or anything, but that would be better than just a puppet for the owners or the players.

Ignoring the Steroids issue until Congress stepped in. Hi, the World Series called. How's 1994 doing? Trying to contract Minnesota and Montreal (nevermind the racketeering talk re: Expos) Oh yeah, and the WBC. That joke that possibly ruined a number of MLB players seasons due to a lack of a real Spring Training.

Politics aside, he might be the best candidate.
