Madness - Soriano signs with Cubs

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2668465

$136,000,000.00 for 8 years. It's 2001 madness all over again.

Wow! You know it's big news when Markus announces it.

Who knows...Cubs in 2007?

Soriano has never been a guy to carry a team like Bonds, Vladdie Guerrero or even Derek Jeter. The Cubs run of bad luck will continue and its their own fault.

!

Ah well, I like Soriano more than most statheadz. Not a terrible pick-up for the Cubs. The contract won't look so bad in 4-5 years if they're still inflating at the current rate.

8 year contracts for 30-year-olds are madness.

The only 40-40-40 guy ever.

Looks like this is a statement management is making to say they are commited to winning by using big paychecks.

Awesome!!!

Yep. George turned our GM into Jim "Deep Pockets" Hendry now.

All we need now is a couple of Aces on top of the mound.

Might want to make that 4 aces. We know what you fools did to your first two.

Id rather have a guy with lesser stats but who can lead a team. This is an ill-advised signing.

I love that they landed a premiere FA

I love that someone with 40 HR potential is coming to Wrigley.

I love that they'll have someone with 40 SB-quality speed (at leadoff or not).

I DO NOT love the EIGHT YEAR deal (though there may be options incuded).

To over-simplify things, that's 3-1 in favor of Lovin' it. All-in-all a good day for Cubs' fans.

Will anyone be interested if the Cubs are limping to another 70 to 75 win season?

That was Dusty. I hope Sweet Lou is a little more reasonable.

Yes! You should move to Chicago now! This is going to be the year...if they get some decent pitching.

A. Soriano
D. Lee
A. Ramirez

Those three guys will strike fear into opposing pitchers. I know I'd be shaking in my cleats if I had to face them in the same line-up. Throw in Michael Barrett when he's hot and that's a recipe for success. *crosses fingers...not wanting to jinx anything*

Me. I live with the Cubs, I die with the Cubs.
