Madness - Soriano signs with Cubs
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2668465
$136,000,000.00 for 8 years. It's 2001 madness all over again.

Soriano has never been a guy to carry a team like Bonds, Vladdie Guerrero or even Derek Jeter. The Cubs run of bad luck will continue and its their own fault.

! Ah well, I like Soriano more than most statheadz. Not a terrible pick-up for the Cubs. The contract won't look so bad in 4-5 years if they're still inflating at the current rate. Last edited by Prodigal Son; 11-19-2006 at 03:38 PM. |

8 year contracts for 30-year-olds are madness.

The only 40-40-40 guy ever.
Looks like this is a statement management is making to say they are commited to winning by using big paychecks. Awesome!!! |

Id rather have a guy with lesser stats but who can lead a team. This is an ill-advised signing.

I love that they landed a premiere FA
I love that someone with 40 HR potential is coming to Wrigley. I love that they'll have someone with 40 SB-quality speed (at leadoff or not). I DO NOT love the EIGHT YEAR deal (though there may be options incuded). To over-simplify things, that's 3-1 in favor of Lovin' it. All-in-all a good day for Cubs' fans. |

A. Soriano D. Lee A. Ramirez Those three guys will strike fear into opposing pitchers. I know I'd be shaking in my cleats if I had to face them in the same line-up. Throw in Michael Barrett when he's hot and that's a recipe for success. *crosses fingers...not wanting to jinx anything* Quote:
