Do you want Bonds to break the HR record?
Well, I'm just wondering what OOTP people thinks.
Personally, I hope he doesn't. It's just too controversial.

Only thing I would like to see him break is his leg, permanently. However, even if he breaks the record, he really didn't. Not legitimately anyway.
I don't see why HR's are considered anything great these days anyway. They are a dime a dozen. What's news is when there is a game without any HR's. |

And I don't remember people wishing ill will on him when he did play. Just don't understand the vitriol for Bonds when there are likely dozens and dozens of Jeremy Giambi's playing the game right now.
Are steroids OK as long as you don't break records? |

This poll relates to Bonds, not Giambi. Throw up a poll about him or any other "highly likely" steroid user and my vote/remark would be the same.

Either way, it doesn't make it right according the rules if the player was the star of the league or some borderline major leaguer.

No, I just don't see any outrage over anyone else who has been either nailed or accused with doing steroids. One would think, given the reactions, that Bonds was the only one who ever did them (and to this day he hasn't even been caught).

Hell yeah. It will be great to see the greatest hitter of all-time have both the single season and career homerun records.

Bonds is an embarrassment to the game of baseball. Anybody caught using steroids is cheating and should be banned from the game. Bonds is just the most visible and the record that he is approaching is one of the most venerable. Heck, I would have banned Sosa for his corked bat and Perry's HoF plaque would be in the garbage can if it were up to me. Zero tolerance for people who would abuse the integrity of baseball for personal gain. Now, argue with that old fashioned notion.

52 HRs in six lifetime seasons? At that pace, he's about 87 years away from breaking the HR record. By then he'll be 118 so he'll need to pick up the pace.
I have no sympathy for anyone that does steroids. I at least appreciate if anyone mans up and admits to it. |

Pretty evident (at least from this poll) that Barry isn't popular with OOTP'ers.
I like the leg breaking permantly option. |

Where are the I hope Shawn Merriman breaks his leg posts? Since, you know, he actually tested positive for a banned substance.

So, basically, you want about 75% of anyone who has ever played the game to be banned?

Yeah, it's funny to be worked up about Bonds when MLB has always been a league that isn't that serious about rules.

It's only important to Baseball purists. The people that don't care, or actually want him to break Aaron's record, just aren't purist enough to let Bonds' hunt for the record bother them. It's as simple as that.
If someday it's proven that Aaron or Ruth used enhancements/steroids when they first set the records, then, and only then, would I be of the opinion that Bonds deserves the record. After all, if Aaron or Ruth cheated in the same way it's alleged that Bonds had been cheating...who knows? The record could be near 950 or 1,000, and Barry would be far from breaking it today. However, we can readily assume Aaron and Ruth weren't on steroids I believe...LOL. But if they were, who can rightly say what the record might be? |
