Install Problem

Steve,

I've had OOTP3 and OOTP4 for some time. Today, I had to reset my Windows system to correct a problem and forgot to unlicense the game. The game would not let me unlicense after (no big deal as I have one e-license left).

I completely deleted the game from my system and redownloaded the OOTP4setup.exe file (via FTP option as the main site was not working).

I installed the game and went to open it. I got the same invalid page fault error I was getting before deleting the game...

I have Windows 98 (1st edition)
256MB Ram
1.33 Mhz processor (Pentium III equal)
10.7 GB hard drive space available

I even went and deleted all secondary OOTP downloads (patches, utilities etc) that I had in a seperate file.

Redownloaded the game again...and still got the error problem.

Spoke with ViaTech (yes they are nice as I've heard in other posts). Appears my problem now is with the OOTP4 program. When I unzip the game and run the .exe file I then click on the OOTP icon to open the game which should access the "purchase/e-license" screen. I get an invalid page fault.. this is even after deleting the game and downloading it again multiple times.

Is Direct X installed and your video driver updated? Not sure what you mean by resetting windows.

Steve...as usual you hit it on the head. Somehow in resetting Windows...my DirectX lost the updates. I had version 8.0 but when I just checked it was down to version 5.0. I reinstalled version 8 and the game worked. YES!!! Any wonder why OOTP has the best support?

Anyway for future reference...I was evidently missing a needed file or .dll or something (thanks to the cable company) and he had to put in the Windows disk. Restore is an option on the disk where it resets Windows to the original settings..I guess that deletes some things that I added since that time.
