Purpose of International leagues

What is the purpose of these international leagues?

I have a fictional universe setup, these "other" leagues sim games along with my Majors level league. When I try to recruit players from these, there is never an option to sign any of them.

Are these players suppose to make their way to the free agent pool for my Majors level? do these international league players ever make it to the Majors league?

I can't figure this one out. It seems to me they are purely cosmetic.

It boils down to, can I ever get these players signed to my Majors team? If so, how? where? when?

Thanks

It mirrors reality.
The Yankees, or Tigers, or Astros, or anyone else, can't just sign any Japanese league player they want. When that Japanese league player becomes a free agent they can sign him.

Same thing in the game. When those international league players become free agents you can sign them to your team... otherwise they're under contract with that international league team just like your players are under contract with you.

Basically it is cosmetic, but it allows you to run a baseball universe instead of just a baseball league. The Japanese league has a different HR king than Hank Aaron... so it would be in your game universe as well.

ok so then If i understand correctly, players from those "other" leagues will end up in the free agent pool of my league if and when a player from there is a free agent?

i dont have to go anywhere else besides my leagues free agent pool?

Yes. In OOTP2006, the whole world shares a common FA pool. Anyone who is a free agent is free to sign with any team that will have him.

I believe you can also trade between the leagues, if you set it up that way in your game setup.

If you have it set up that way in your game setup, that is. Each league can be adjusted to either allow or disallow signing free agents from other leagues.

Based on postings in other threads, it should be noted that players can arrive in the free agent pool either by going free agent or by being released. If a player is released, it appears that they will be available for signing by any team, regardless of whether the league rules allow signings of free agents (or allow their free agents to be signed by other leagues).

The international leagues add a lot of players, transactions, news, and messages to your game. This can have an adverse effect on game performance, file storage space needs, and distractions from what you want to focus upon. My thought (from an American MLB perspective) is to have them in your game only, as tysok says, if you wish to mirror reality and then only if you have the hardware to handle the load.

It is a heavy load with Korean and Mexican and Cuban.... et al. But it is great to have them in the fictional or even if you a MLB replay, if you do not mind the fictional Japanese pitcher signing in the MLB.
