Errors in display
I ran into a couple of problems in my Oriental universe tonight. I'll list them separately.
The first problem revealed itself when I turned off the scouting system. I discovered that some of the positional defense ratings weren't displaying. M. Ohayashi was listed at left and right field, but not in Center. (His defense in center is a 9.) I. Hamacho was listed at third base, but not at second or short (second base 53, short 38). K. Kichida was listed at second base, but not at short or third (shortstop 38, third base 47). T. Nakahata was also listed at second base, but not at short or third (shortstop 46, third base 56). I had occassionally encountered this problem while scouting was turned on, but those times it was always when the fielding value at that position was under twenty, so I thought of it as a kind of rounding error. Obviously, that's no longer the case with scouting off. Last edited by Curtis; 10-31-2006 at 09:46 PM. Reason: found an error in Ohayashi's entry |

How do I do a screen shot? If it makes a difference, I have a Mac. When you explain, please keep in mind that I'm a computer illiterate.

Can anyone tell us how to post a screenshot on a MAC? On a PC you just click on ALT and the Print Screen button. Then you paste the information into an image program such as Microsoft Paint and save the file as a .jpg. I don't know if that will work on a MAC though.

I have no 'print screen' button on my keyboard, and I'm not sure what an image program is. I'll try asking my local Mac Guy what's going on with this.

I can't send you a screenshot. The applicable Mac application is called 'Grab'. Unfortunately, Grab only creates .tiff files, and I see that that isn't a valid file extension for this board. I'll try to tell you exactly what I'm seeing from the four shots I took.
On the Depth Chart page for the Hokkaido-Nippon Ham Fighters, I have three second basemen listed. On the Position Ratings view, with scouting turned off, it says that: T. Nakahata has a fielding rating (on the 1-100 scale) of 61 at second base, with dashes for every other position. K. Kichida is a 54 at second base, with dashes for every other position. I. Hamacho is a 62 at third base, with a dash for every other position. Second shot is Tanzan Nakahata's Editor page, in the lower right corner. It reads: Position second base; Experience 200; Resulting Rating 121 Position shortstop; Experience 200; Resulting Rating 92 Third shot is Kyuichi Kichida's Editor page, in the lower right corner. It reads: Position second base; Experience 200; Resulting Rating 106 Position shortstop; Experience 200; Resulting Rating 75 Fourth shot is Ichiro Hamacho's Editor page, in the lower right corner. It reads: Position second base; Experience 150; Resulting Rating 79 (I edited this down since my first post) Position third base; Experience 200; Resulting Rating 123 As you can 'see', Nakahata and Kichida are missing their shortstop ratings, and Hamacho is missing his second base rating. This makes it very difficult to keep track of which players can play what positions. I hope this clairifies the situation. |

Still a little confusing without a screenshot, but I think I am following you. What are the infield range and error ratings for these players. This also helps to determine what their overall rating is at a position and whether that will be listed.

Ok, I messed around with this a bit. What is the turn double plays rating set for
T. Nakahata? If it is too low, then his position will not be displayed for second base and shortstop.

Nakhata Turn DP 96 Infield Arm 51
Kichida Turn DP 95 Infield Arm 41 Hamacha Turn DP 53 Infield Arm 133 (Just 'cause I thought you might ask.) The problem isn't that these guys don't have ratings good enough to get them listed, the problem is that, even though their numbers are good enough, they're not getting listed, anyway. And they aren't the only ones. Of the 84 players in my system now, four (the ones listed in my opening post) are affected. Of the fifty or so who've passed through my system but didn't stick, there were another two or three. With the exceptions of these three guys, all of the 'missing' ratings are under 20 in the editor, which means they'd be in single digits on the positional ratings chart. (Note; I've edited my starting post to reflect that.) For that reason, the others don't seriously concern me, but these three infielders are missing ratings at positions they're darn good at, and in two cases at their default positions. THAT is a problem. |

Done, but it's 2.3 MB, so don't be surprised if it bounces.

Hmmm. I note in the depth chart screen that scouting is by SISA. SISA is notorious for incomplete scouting analysis, leaving out some ratings while posting others, as I have seen in my game. This is why you employ regular scouts for more complete analysis. Could this be the cause? Test: Select a scout who has scouted the team recently or turn off scouting altogether and look at the same depth chart screen.

In spite of what the screen says, scouting is NOT by SISA in those shots. For the purposes of taking those pictures I turned scouting off. When scouting is off, it SAYS scouting by SISA. Don't ask me why.
It was a good thought, though. |

That's true. When you turn scouting off, all the ratings appear and it may say SISA or the last scout that you used. So, if that screen is with scouting off, you do have a problem!
Sorry, Curtis, I thought that I had nailed this one for you.

This bug may turn out to be related to one I previously reported ('Financial Bug' in the Logged Issues section). I posted there this afternoon to say that that one had also turned out to be a display error. In that one, the numbers claimed (showed that) they were altered from what I entered to $1, but internally the engine was treating them as if they were the numbers I entered.
If the game is recognizing the actual fielders' ratings, but not displaying them, how would I know? And is that a more easily correctable bug? |

Curtis,
I think you are correct that this may be related to the other bug in logged issues. I will add a note to that TT that this may be occurring in other areas. Thanks.
