Question for Historical League Commishes?
I've been running a modern day now fictional league for the last 2 seasons. I am thinking about starting a historical league sometime in the near future. I've played several historical solo leagues and know there is a lack of minor league players when you start. My question for the commisioners is how does that affect your league, is there a way to balance that out, and is one database better than another.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Randy

I thinkI have a good idea for a league set-up that solves the problem you mention and might be very interesting. I propose that you start with a current league but also choose a historic year to begin the drafts. That way you have historic players to draft instead of fictional players. Say you chose 1936 for the first rookie draft, then your draft pools would come from 1937, 38, 39 etc. in the following years. After 10 seasons or so, you have a completely historic league (almost) with excellent prospect pool. If I were a better ommish, I'd start a league like this, but I am terrible at getting the sims done on time so I am trying to sell the idea to somebody else, lol.
The other idea I had (tried and ruined by my poor Commissioning) was to choose two historic years (I used '36 and '76 if I remember right) and combine the rosters and the subsequent draft years. That way you start with substantial rosters and have good sized pools to draft from. It takes a bit of extra work since you can only pull one draft class in easily and then you have to import the other one manually (I developed a technique for doing this but camn't remember it offhand). If you do any of this, let me know at arlo53z@adelphia.net so I can join. Cheers, Arlo |
