new basketballs
Sounds like most of the players really hate this new ball they're gonna be using this year. From what i've read, these things can only go a few plays before they get really slippery so I guess at least at the beginning of the season expect to see a lot of sloppy play and not as much driving/slashing as in the past due to the poor conditions.
Not really sure why the NBA would go along with a new ball without testing it out with the players to see how they feel about it, considering if they find it unusable, its probably not a good product. |

The balls were tested during the past two all-star games and the past two summer leagues. The balls were also preferred by the league because they last longer and don't require constant care. In fact, some players have expressed their dislike for the ball by suggesting it "sticks" to their hands longer because of it's improved handling. |

I used the 2nd version for years, since I didn't have access to a gym where I could play with the real game ball version until few years ago. Does anyone have experience with the two? Surprised some of our illustrious fans havent tried the new ball yet.

It's not like these players have never played with these new style balls. They are mass produced everywhere. I'm guessing they are very similar to the balls we (as in those not in the league and play in a park or gym) play with. |

Nash for instance talks about how it feels different coming off his hand whereas the old ball would just flow off, it now sticks a bit leading to some timing issues. They also mention that its taking different bounces and spins, meaning they haveto readjust their banks and bounce passes and such. Here is the article for those that have insider http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insid...report/newball |

I don't blame the players for hating it. They've been used to one type of ball for years. No one likes change. |
